Cut off Date for 16U team

My daughter will be 17 next week. A coach told me that she would still be eligible to play for a 16U team August 1st being the break date. I thought she would be to old since it is 16U and she is 17. Can anyone explain this to me? :

Next year she must play 18U

I was to understand that the cut off date was January 1st. ?Is that only for a certain age group? ?
My understanding is that if your daughter will be 17 on January 1st 2007 she must play 18U. ?
Now if she were still 16 on January 1 2007 she could still play 16U. ?
Have I been mislead?

If she will be 17 next week, then she'll be 17 on Jan 1st (which is the "break date&quot and will thus be too old to play 16U next year.

she can still play 16u for Fall ball, but must play 18u for 2007 season....
