Economy Problems = Changes

It looks like we are headed for $4.00 a gallon gas by May, a standard hotel might now run $90.00.

It may be a good idea to stay in hotels where some of us used to drive back and forth last year.

We were caught in a major traffic jam last year and burnt approx. 1/2 tank of gas which at the time was $40.00 a tank now closer to $80.00 a tank.

Will this change your decision to stay overnight instead of driving back and forth ?

Will the economy change how you plan your summer?

It will change some things for us. We probably won't be dragging along the younger siblings this summer to help cut down on costs. It may just be the dd & I most weekends, especailly if we are out of town that way we may be able to split a room with another mom & daughter.

you need to come to our auction and get big discounts on hotel rooms. We have an auction every year to raise money for our class trip to Washington DC. This year we raised over $28,000 during the 2 day event. We get so many hotel stays donated throughout the country that we sell them at our friday sale for a big discount. These are marriotts, embassy suites, doubletree, sheraton suites, la quintas, fairfield inns, holiday inn express. People come and eat these up. If I could only come up with a way for gas companies to donate gas cards I would have my summer made. We even put together week long disney trips, week long golf trips to vegas, myrtle beach. 4 day trips to chicago, week trips to nashville, atlantic city, niagara falls, columbus, cleveland, clearwater beach, dallas, just to name a few.

I hope TD will keep rising prices in mind and try to make tourney's two day and not 3 day

Well it does not seem to have effected the big tournaments around the state that is for sure. Our team is going to both GAPSS and Stingrays and there are teams from all over Ohio and multiple states as well.

I look at it this way, parents are not going to tell their kids that there will be no softball this season because gas is a $1.00 more per gallon. They enjoy the social apect of theis sport as much as the players enjoy the competitive aspect. Everyone will adjust, I do not see it as that big of a deal.

We adjusted the whole organizations schedule do to gas and hotel prices.
We decided to play a little bit more local to save the $200.00 or so hotel fees every weekend.

Our parents were very thankful...... ?:)

I actually set the schedule more locally before the RISE in gas price. Jeeez... I guess I will have to find a way to get a jug net on a motorcycle.

We are sticking to 2 hours or less from our area. We want to provide options to the families becase of how the economic situation was looking in late December. We also are working towards earning monies via fundraising to provide per diems to the families to assist in the expenses of the ever changing economic outlook.

We thought about adjusting our schedule a little bit but for the most part we are only traveling 2 hours or less from home anyway. There was no way that we wanted to miss out on playing in the tournaments such a GAPSS and Stingrays, and when we saw the Capitol City Classic was going to be played at Berliner park we decided to make yet another trip to Columbus. Then heding up to Toledo for the Tune-Up we get to see a ton of teams that we do not otherwsie see all summer. From the list of teams that we saw entered in each of those tournaments so far there seems to be a nice mix. The problem that I see with playing too local is that you tend to see the same teams each weekend. Maybe it does not actually turn out that way but it seems to. I do agree that it will cost more this year but maybe we will have a few famlies car pool or something like that, I guess that every little bit will help.

Have pity on me and my Suburban with it's 42 gallon gas tank! :'( On the hotel front, I think when you get one for the whole team to stay at it limits your choices for cheaper accomodations. I've had to get mine independent of the team before and found places as close to the fields as the teams but for considerably less. I realize some teams want all the girls together but going out on your own for a room can sometimes be more to your advantage financially when you're free to shop around for what suits you and not everybody else.

There will come a day when real softbll games are a thing of the past. When they get the Wii online, you won't even have to leave your living room to play a ball game. They just have to figure out how to verify birth certificates.

Teams need to buy busses and parents, players, coaches ride free. ;D Wouldn't that be cool to let the team design their own bus! ;D
