N.L.L vs. Toledo City League

Thunder the one thing that we could agree on is that this is a great way to promote softball in NWO. I am looking forward to seeing as many games as I can. This one is a very hard one to predict. SUA has Shultz back pitching. ND has Gramling back pitching. AW has Gill back pitching. SV has Gates back pitching. Clay has Holmes back pitching. Springfield has Michalak back pithcing. PB has Bryson back pitching. In my opinion if any of these ladies are having a good game they can just about win a game by themselves. So to predict anything besides some good softball is kind of hard. JMHO.

I think some of you on here are underestimating both NDA and Whitmer.

I know Whitmer lost Kulakowski, Grosuch and their 1st baseman (forgot her name) but... Temple should fill the SS position nicely and Erdman I think will be a consistantly good pitcher for WHS, the only thing I say negative about Whitmer is they have consistantly top flight talent in our area and for whatever reason they havent put it together. 2 Years ago, when they had their big run before losing to AW in Districts or wherever they lost to them ,they finished like 6th in the City league, off that team 4 kids have gone on to play College softball at some level, Meanwhile NDA which 2 years ago lost to Clay in the TCl Championship game then to Whitmer in States 3-2 or 2-1 had one kid go one to play in College.

NDA- Their Coaching staff now has a year to see what they have, sounds like there is big numbers there, they have plenty of Travel players, both on JV and Varsity, they had lost their best OF to injury before last year started which put a new staff in flux, I think this year they sound better prepared...I hear every returning player on the Freshman, JV and Varsity team played together over the summer in one of those Summer leagues, they lost I think 6 Srs. But seem to have replacements for most players. Also NDA's JV team beat Springfield, Perrysburg and SUA, all three very strong JV teams. Lost to Clay 4-2 in the TCL, if most of us are saying Clay is a strong team this year (they lost 8 Sr.s) and PB is going to be good (not sure how many they lost, but lost good players) we are assuming they will reload due to a strong JV team I think the same could be said for NDA.

Not saying they are going 2-0, but I dont think either would be an easy game, but its possible both could go 2-0.

Just giving the City League some love, with all the NLL sharks around lol ;D

Uber...

Pbug lost their 3rd(moved to catcher),SS, 2nd and 1st and a part time OF. I was told 5 kids total?

I umpired ND's JV team 2 times last year. They are tough.

Clay--lossing 8 players will be really tough to replace. Early in the season may be kind of crazy. But they will get it together and play well as always.

Agreed FP11, Berry and that #2 hitter (I heard she graduated) cant remember her name, those 2 are huge holes to fill. Catcher @ Clay is freaking loaded, they wont miss a beat there, good JV players, and the fact of the matter is Clay Always for some reason gets off to a slow start, you would think living in Oregon, the City by the Arctic Ice cap they would love the cold weather lol.

I think SUA, Clay, Springfield, and AW are the clear best 4 teams, then followed by PB, NDA, Southview.

Either way this was a great idea, and the softball fans in this area become fans of whatever teams are on a States run, its a great thing.

Clay beat AW
Clay lost to PB,Springfield
Whitmer Beat AW
Whitmer lost to PB
Southview Beat Whitmer
Southview Lost to NDA
Southview Lost to Start
SUA Beat Rossford
SUA lost too? Not sure some of the scores
Central didnt beat anybody of note but BG.
NDA Beat Southview
NDA lost to Northview
NDA lost to springfield

All this means what? Not a thing, all the schools are hurt by graduation. So whoever gets their underclassman up to speed fastest are going to be the ones that are most succesful. AW, Clay and Springfield are the ones with the deepest underclassman pools.

Uber,

Your comments on Whitmer deserve some observations...

In 2006 (2 years ago) it was Kulakowski's Junior Year after not playing as a Sophomore with a blown out knee. It seems then that "their big run before losing to AW in Districts or wherever they lost to them, they finished like 6th in the City league..." may have been the result of some seasoning at the key position in our game--pitcher. Some teams have great talent--great infielders...outfielders...etc. but it is the young lady at the #1 position that will most often determine how many wins/losses you will have. The run, if you remember required both pitchers to perform well in state games. K became the dominant confident pitcher she was not for much of the season...but it was the season (even with a 6th place finish) that made her what she was. Sometimes things are not pretty in this game but important things get done--Win or Lose--players develop and teams gel. Some suggest it is how teams play at the end of the season that is the true measure of the team and how well that they have developed and improved. My offering...1st on the OCF---may be my last.

whsfan---let me just say that I hope your first post won't be your last (we need as many thoughtful voices on here as we can get). :)

You bring up an excellent point---(like in making sausage) ?;), things in this game aren't always pretty, but important things get done and important lessons are learned.

And while Uber certainly does not need me to defend him, if you've been reading for a while, you will have seen that he is probably one of the more analytic voices on this site (and, I believe, a staunch defender of the City League schools---and Whitmer in particular). ?

It did not appear (to me, at least) that he was trying to make any accusations---in fact, he actually says that other folks are underestimating Whitmer. ?It sort of looked to me like one of his points was that perhaps seasonal standings don't really mean that much (seeing as Whitmer obviously had such a wealth of talent in spite of what any "ranking" might say).

(just my two cents) :)

That is true WHS, I was basically pointing out that people ( non-City League folk ?;) ) are writing Whitmer off with the loss of Gorsuch and K. I think they are going to be good, they have some nice players returning and a good pitcher waiting for her chance. Whitmer the past 4 years has been a team that has had a ton of talent, I would guess more then any other school in the area. The have a loss in the City League Championships and 2 District championships, yet everybody is quick to say they are falling off the map. I attend almost all of WHS's home games and I know what they have and what they can do, I just hope the coach puts as much time into his in-game managment as he does into keeping spectators away from the backstop ;)

I hope you continue to post on OFC, we need more TCL and less NLL people lol ?;D

Hey Uber, Just think how good Whitmer would be if two of their own didn't go to ND and SUA. ;) ;) :) :)

Using this thread as starting point;
How do Gramling, Holmes, Schultz stack up against Bryson, Gates, and Gill?
OR
Against each other? On paper at least.
Are they all power pitchers or location types or rise ball specialists?
Until we can determine it on the field, what are your thoughts?

whsfan....... Well said, you described ND last year. they struggled early with a new coaching staff and finished really strong with 2 wins against their rival ,a win against very good Sv team and lost a heartbreaker to Whitmer. I watched the pitcher they have coming up(name escapes me) in a Jv game year against ND the final score was ND 1 Whitmer 0 one of the best games I saw this year is "Temple"still on team MHO one of the best 3rd basemen in NWO. Fans should not be supprised if Whitmer was at the top in the end.
