Toledo City League 2008

Since a thread was started about the NLL, thought we could start a TCL thread.

My top teams in the City league are.

SUA (Best pitcher in the league, talented JV team to fill shoes of starters lost)

Clay (lost 8 seniors, still have Holmes in the circle. Clearly the best JV team last year, they are just going to reload)

NDA (lost 5 Seniors, Still have 4 year Varsity player in Gramling, very good JV team, HC's 2nd year should make them players in the TCL)

Waite (my darkhorse, well coached, good Jr. Class)

Start was hurt most by graduation, I also heard they have a new coach, is this True Katjoebenmom? Whitmer, a program with as much talent as anybody in the area the past 4 years have been middle of the road, now that the cupboard is not as full are they going to fall of the map?
CCHS has some work to do, Bowsher lost some good players to Graduation.

Players to watch this year:

NDA- Gramling, My opinion best all around player in the TCL. Not many pitchers, could step out of the Circle and into SS , also very good hitter.

SUA- Schultz, should be the best pitcher in the area, Allen SS, great stick and speed, Loy going to guess CF, very good hitter, their ace pitcher in waiting.

Clay- Holmes, 2 TCL titles, tough pitcher, M. Rice will be best all around 3rd basewomen in the TCL.

Feel free to add to players to watch, I know at this time I am forgetting some top players lol.

Uber---I thought that the combination of losing Orban and stumbling so badly at the end of their season last spring had broken the coach's heart and she wouldn't be back next season. ;) ?

BUT, have since heard that she may have changed her mind.

I'll have to do some investigative work.

Not ready to take a shot at a top 10 list yet, but I'll agree that top 2 are Clay and SUA.

Clay---because that program seems to eat, breathe and sleep softball.

SUA ---for the players mentioned above, and nothing succeeds like success.

And as for Waite---nice to see our sisters across the river getting a little love. :D ?

How can you not pick Clay to "3Peat"???
With Brandy Holmes on the mound "Tuff as Nails" everytime out!!

IMHO by far the best pitcher in the Toledo City League!!

Thunder I agree it could go either way. I just state MHO. Now I have never been paid for my opinion so I am not sure it is even worth 2 cents. ;D ;D

The battle will be SUA and Clay. Clay lost a HUGE bat in Molly Berry. One of the best leadoff hitters ever in NWO. She played a great centerfield. They might have loss a great bat, but they didn't lose anything in centerfield. Toni Hernandez will take over and she is fantastic defensive player, she will need to work on the hitting to match Berry. Schultz is very good as well as Holmes. I am like Thunder it could go either way. I would give the edge to Clay. I look forward to the NLL/TCL challenge this year. Whoever thought of this is very smart.

Players to watch.

SUA - Loy/ great kid and a ton of talent.

Clay - Hernandez/ slick fielder Wise/ Lindsey will have a better Jr year than Soph year.

ND - Terrie/ Torri played freshman ball last year, but she should skip JV this year. Well rounded player. Could help ND varsity squad.

I do know Clay's SS is returning from a year off playing that dreaded other sport(soccer). The younger Holmes girl should step right onto the field after a very successful summer with NWO Irish.
With Brandy pitching every game is "winnable" as it was this past summer when Brandy pitched with my DD's summer team

Clay lost 8 Seniors, and Schultz at SUA is the best pitcher in the TCL. Thats why I am picking SUA :)

Clay is definetly the one to beat being 2 time defending champs. I think ND will be right there with them. IMHO Gramling will be the pitcher to watch in TCL with her finally being the ace and a head coach in his second year with her, she should be awesome. The only issue I see with them is there are 11 to 13 Senoirs 11 to 13 Juniors and 10 to 12 Sophmores trying out next spring Thats alot to chose from, could be good thing are a bad thing we will see. As for SUA I am not sure if they have the talent around Shultz to win it all. Afterall ND beat SUA 2 times last year.

Thats alot of kids to look at during a tryout, hopefully he has an idea already lol.

With all these SR. that graduated at these schools, It becomes a matter of are the kids that are moving up filling a spot that they are good at? Example Springfield lost their starting stud SS, their starting 2007 RF is a top flight SS in her own right and will step right in. SUA also lost a good SS, but their RF is also a very good SS and should fill right in. Clay has a very good replacement for Berry, but that kid had a unique skill set at the plate and that will be tough for them to replace. They will have a new varsity Catcher, but they are loaded there too, so it should be interesting.

SUA will be good - Good JV team
Clay will be good- Good JV team- TCL Champs
NDA will be interesting- Good JV team- Lost in TCL Championship game

Uber I agree those are the tops of the TCL. As you stated I see the winner being the one that has the people who really step it up when they replace the seniors. This will be the team that wins it. And the teams you listed had strong JV teams. Whens the UBJ points for this coming out?

Uber, that is alot to look at for tryouts, but I think the good thing is this year the coach got a very good look at his talent out on the field in game action not only in the spring but in the summer. IMHO last year he only could evaluate on what he could see inside at conditioning and tryouts, This spring he should have a better idea on who plays well between the chalked lines. The good thing is he has alot of good talent moving up from the Jv squad and the Freshman squad.

I am now wavering on my #4 team the top three are going to be Clay, NDA and SUA not sure of the order yet.

#4 is tough,

Start will have super soph Kat Conway in the circle, had a pretty good JV team, good Coach...but lost a hell of a SR. Class.

Whitmer Super Soph Hayli Erdmann in the circle, Temple's bat back ...lost the best player in the TCL hands down in Gorsuch.

Waite is still my darkhorse, they are going to be in the mix :)
