I agree. The swing starts from the ground up. The hip will start with the hands very close as you stated. Its a fraction of time. What the "Elvis" move is teaching to lunge your hips way in front of your hands. In the video, SL even talks about how the hands are still back after the Elvis move. That's simply wrong. I don't think he will post stats. If I was betting, I guess she is a strong hitter but lacks power. Just my opinion.
Those that know SL knows that Casey is a hard working accomplished hitter.
Power is not just how many HRs a lady hits... SLG% hitting DBL/Triples and just having the ability to hit the ball through the defense with improved ball velocity off the bat is honestly where most of the young ladies will see results from the training, drills and reps to increase their power not with hitting 250ft HR.
My DD played in some of the best tournaments in the country, including camps and combines. In high school she played in the GMC with two decent D1 playoff runs facing many D1 committed pitchers between the GMC/GWOC etc. as well as her travel game. So she was blessed to have the opportunity to see the best talent available on her way to college in travel ball and in HS ball.
In all of these games I can only recall a very small percentage of hitters that I would consider a "true" Home Run type of power hitter that had an BA to go with it. I would say the same is true in watching the college game at various levels as well over the years.
Now, there were a lot of Great hitters we faced over the years including: slappers/bunters but; if ones measure of success is comparing them to Bustos or any other major league power hitter you will be disappointed. (There are just not that many out there and the ones I have seen have a variety of hitting approaches) However; most have the same basic foundation.
The main thing to take away from SL information I think is to continue to look for tools or drills that keep it fresh for the hitter while still providing opportunity for the lady to grow her skills and keep it fun. As the ladies grow they need additional challenges and drills and workouts to improve their skills. SL video will not hurt any lady as they continue on their softball journey as many have used it in the past and still use it today.
