THE BEST PITCHERS IN THE OH IO

I watched a game last week where the catcher was told to only call a fastball and nothing off speed. The pitcher was pulled after 3 innings and 4 runs. Too bad too, because this pitcher worked hard to develop a nice curve an drop ball that would have worked well with her speed.

I also know a high school pitcher who doesn't pitch for her travel team by choice. She kind of took last summer off from pitching except to practice once in a while. She was put in a game, and her speed was about 45 mph. Wow, I have never seen her drop ball move so much and be so effective. The batters looked silly trying to swing.

A pitcher that can mix speed and movement--that is who I would take.

Speed is a Great Thing!
Movement is a Great Thing!
The combination of the right Speed and Movement is EVERYTHING !!

College Pitchers, and now NSA 18s, pitch from 43 ft. This gives the that 60+ curve ball a chance to react late, after the hitter committs. All your DDs will tell you, you will get very few straightline fastballs to hit in college.

In my opinion Heather Widner from Ready and paige myers from Grove city are the best...hands down. Playing with both of this girl they have pretty much the full package and with paige only being a fresh she is only going to get stronger!

In spite of ACL surgery in the fall, Dana Bohrs from Lebanon. Last week she struck out 17 out 18 batters faced. The only ball put in play against her was a pop up to 3rd. Second best ? - Faith Tessmer who never gets to pitch because she's on the same team as Dana.

I'd say Sarah Phillips is one of the best hands down along with Ashley Byers. I've heard Sarah having a great year already.

I have to mention 1st team All Ohio in DII Abbie Shell of Greenville. Gets little or no recognition across the state but its hard to find anyone more effective over the past two seasons. This year so far she defeated:

Canfield ( Allowing 1 run) @ Wendy's
Lebanon (Allowing 1 run)
Bishop Ready (Allowing 1 run)
Westerville South (no hitter had a perfect game until a two out error in the 7th)
Northmont (Allowing 1 run)
Stow-Munroe (Allowing 1 run) @ Wendy's
Fairmont (shutout)
Floyd Central Indiana (Allowed 1 earned run)
New Palestine Indiana (@ Wendy's)
Lancaster (shutout)
Centerville (allowed 1 run)
Piqua (shutout)
Troy (shutout)

Thats 7 runs vs some very good competition. Many of the teams listed above score that many runs in most games that they play. There may be some pitchers in the state who have more impressive strike out numbers or who throw 60 + mph, but few have won more big games vs. top level teams in the past two season on a regular basis. For a DII school Greenville plays a perdominatly DI schedule, and most of those schools are tough.

I have no idea of her name, age or anything and I've only seen her pitch once, but the lefty from Elyria pitched a great game to beat North Canton Hoover on Saturday. She really kept them off balance with a great change. She also moved it in, out, up, and down.

Rich,

You are right, she has worked hard and gives 100% everytime. I would have to say Greenville would not be where they are today with out her. Let's also give credit to her supporting cast.

As of the date 4/23 Sarah Phillips is leading Central Ohio in strikeouts with 161 and Ashley Byers is in second with 105. Sarah's in second place with an ERA of .07 and Ashley is in third with an ERA of .30. Adams from Fairbanks has the lowest ERA with .01. Hope this helps BRUTE.

I think he was referring to the younger girl who has the unorthodox/funky motion - she is one of the coaches daughters and is only in 7th grade!

The meyers girl that throws for Grove City High School is the one from Nightmare. I saw her against Coffman, and was told she did change because of the old motion took so much out of her. She looks like she lost a some pop (probably adjusting), but is still dominating high school which is awesome for a freshman.

MV-Xpress you are correct about Shell. She does have a great defensive supporting cast. She is not as overpowering as some others around the state, but she will not be outworked by many.

A true team player, and she knows her role.
