I think Sarah Phillips from Olentangy Liberty and Ashley Byers from Westerville South have to be mentioned.

SBD...

I agree with you. They are putting up some amazing stats this year according to the paper. They deserve to be mentioned here.

Not sure about Ballinger but Schwaeble was mentioned on here. As well she should be. Saw her pitch last summer at a tournament. Very impressive pitcher.

misstified-arent Schwaeble and Ballinger a lot older than the ones you listed? Have not seen them at the travel level but have only been at the 10U and 16U level for the last few years. Either they are new to area, young or play for teams we have not seen at tournaments. But have to say from what has been posted on all the boards sounds like Schwaeble has a lot of talent around her on the field at Colerain.

Any freshman who pitches or plays at the varsity level deserves mention. There were years in the past most schools wouldn't put a freshman on the varsity team. Says a lot about their commitment.

dd's team played Colerain and Lakota East this year both pitchers Schwaeble and Ballinger were great and had very good talent around them as can be seen by their records. There were very few easy outs in either line up and the two pitchers were very dominant. mistified the post that had you puzzles was written by a kid who probably did not know these ladies.

Hands down the division 1 state champion Mindy Meredith (Hudson) alias Akron Sapphires, Also Haley Knight (G-Men Garfield) alias Akron Sapphires. We are blessed to have the two of the best pitchers in the state.

God bless the Sapphires

saw the semi's with hudson and pickerington, hudson left handed has a good rise ball, the tall girl from pickerington was a good pitcher with several pitches,
she did a good job of keeping the ball down, look to see her in the all state list
somewhere

Jessica Simpson of North Canton Hoover named the Ohio Gatorade Player of the Year. According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer she was 27-2 with a 0.33 era.

5Alive,

If you see a Sapphire / Ice Black matchup it will be round #2. The Sapphires and the Ice Black already squared off in the spano dome tournament in February. It was a great battle. The final score of the game after 7 innings was 0-0. Gilliam started for the Ice Black and was took out after 3 innings. The second Ice pitcher who I didn't know also pitched very good. Gilliam is a very good pitcher who has a variety of pitches. Haley Knight went the distance for the Sapphires. Mindy Meredith pitched against the Pittsburg Spirit and did not give up a run. She completely dominated them.

Let the fun begin!

Hey Joe sorry about the spelling error. Have a question for you. Have you seen the Wolfpack Black 15U yet this Spring? I know they have a couple of really good pitchers in Cory Rubright, Dani Steep and I can't think of the 3rd one, but I know she's as good as the other 2.

I'm partial to Byers, Phillips, and Gillian from Central Ohio. But state wide, you have to talk about Meredith and Knight from the Sapphires and Simpson from Hoover (Grand Slam?). There are two up and comers from Central and Northern Ohio that could be awesome, but I'll wait until this travel season concludes to "see if they are for real".

5Alive the Wolfpack Black pitchers are all excellent. The 3rd pitcher I think you are talking about is Amber Myers. Yes I have seen the Wolfpack play. They are top notch. Northeast Ohio is loaded with talent.

Thanks Joe for the info. Were you up at Best of the Best this weekend? Heard the Wolfpack Black looked sharp. Don't know where the all the 16 teams finished, but was told by a reliable source, that they were some of the best games one would see in Ohio!

Keep hearing about Sapphires, but where do they play? They weren't at Best of the Best, and they're not on the list for 16-U or 18-U for ASA state tournament. What age group are Meredith and Knight in? Do they play in tournaments? What organization - ASA, NSA, Pony, etc.? Just wondering where one might see them play?

Hey Shoeless Joe...you are right! ?The "other" pitcher for the Wolfpack Black is Amber Myers. ?She was a freshman this year at Cuyahoga Falls High School. ?She was voted 1st team All-Conference (Western Reserve). ?She had over 125 strikeouts with an ERA of .95, with a season record of 12 wins, 2 losses, 3 saves. ?She led the Black Tigers to 2nd place (Hudson 1st) in the WRC and helped bring Falls softball back alive. ?Wolfpack Black...A VERY talented team, and nice kids, too!! ?Northeast Ohio is LOADED with talent and Ohio will be represented VERY well!!

Good luck to all!....Nan the Fan

Blue----Sapphires are from Hudson and play a mix of NSA and ASA tournaments. I think we are in 3 ASA and 4 NSA this summer. Both Meredith and Knight were freshman this year. We will be in Akron this weekend and at the ASA Qualifier in Cortland next weekend.

Jessi Carmichael

All I know is that she tied the State Record for punch outs (15) in the finals, pitched her team to Back to Back State Championships. When she arrived at Dalton, Dalton started winning. She pitched in 3 Regional Championships in 4 years. Dalton hadn't won a playoff game until she arrived. Certainly there are girls who are faster-but I don't know any pitchers out there who have the speed, control and movement she possess. Her best quality as a pitcher is none of the above, it is her mental toughness. So you can talk to me about this, that and the other with other pitchers. If it is about winning and putting a team your shoulders? Then my money is on Big Red. Some of you who never saw her pitch, to bad you missed her...as she threw her last pitch at State.

Thanks Jess for a great ride
Dad
