The flyers for the 16U ASA State tournament in Findlay, June 12-14, state a 1 hour, 15 minute time limit. http://www.eteamz.com/FFP/files/U16StateTournamentFlyer.doc

I thought that ASA Championship play had a 1 hour, 40 minute time limit?

Article 510 GENERAL REGULATIONS OF CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY. All championship play must be conducted in accordance with this Code and the playing rules as adopted by the ASA. In case of a conflict between the playing rules and the ASA Code in championship play, the ASA Code shall take precedence.

O. Time Limit Rule. A region may by majority vote establish procedures for a time limit in qualifiers, regional or tournaments. When the time limit rule is in effect, time
begins with the first pitch. If the game is still tied after the time limit has expired, the tie breaker rule shall be in effect at the start of the next inning.

01. In Junior Olympic 10-Under Class A and 10-Under Class B Fast Pitch pool play, no inning shall start after 1 hour and 40 minutes. If the game is still tied after the time limit has expired, the tiebreaker shall be in effect at the start of the next inning.

02. In Junior Olympic 10-Under Class A and 10-Under Class B Fast Pitch elimination play, no inning shall start after 1 hour and 40 minutes. If the game is still tied after the time limit has expired, the tiebreaker shall be in effect at the start of the next inning.

03. In all Junior Olympic Class A 12-Under, 14-Under, 16-Under and 18-Under pool play; Class B 12-Under, 14-Under, 16-Under and 18-Under pool play; and Gold pool play; no inning shall start after 1 hour and 40 minutes. If the game is still tied after the time limit has expired, the tiebreaker shall be in effect at the start of the next inning.

04. In all Junior Olympic Class B 12-Under, 14-Under, 16-Under and 18-Under elimination play; no inning shall start after 1 hour and 40 minutes. If the game is still tied after the time limit has expired, the tiebreaker shall be in effect at the start of the next inning.

What am I missing?

Is the time limit for every game 1 hour and 40 mins or just the championship games? I would imagine that pool play can be whatever the tourny director wants.

From my understanding of what the code says, that any pool game that counts in trying to get to the ASA/USA Championship (qualifiers, Metros, National Qualifiers, Regionals, States) have to meet the time limit requirement. If the pool games do not count toward seeding, then I think that they would not fall under the time limit rule. Then for any elimination game to have a time limit, it would have to be approved by the regional board.

Had this same problem last year. TD's don't know the rules and try to run these tourneys like every other tourney. ASA States and ASA/USA National qualifiers must be 1 hour 40 minute time limits. Get it taken care of now by contacting the commissioner. I had to do it several times last year. They also like to change the format as well. It should be 1 pool game into double elimination

In the email sent by Jim Welch - he states that pool play games are 1 hr and 40 minutes. Championship play games have no time limits. Now with that being said and looking at the schedule again, that is not possible based on the time in between scheduled games. I am going to email him and will post any updates I receive.

I think that all of the games should be 1 hour 40 minute time limits. Especially in state tournaments.
