Had a girl over, big girl, everything sounded flat off her bat.
Her dad asked me when the lesson started if I thought she needed a new bat.

Some hand path adjustments and worked on her sequence and she had this crack sound coming off that bat.
I asked him what he thought about that sound :)

The girl then said joking , thanks allot Gerry!!!! I wanted a new bat.

I see girls all the time come to me with high dollar bats. And some cant hit it consistently, some are dead pull hitters. Heck some even cant make contact. Some of the mechanics I see are so poor at first that I dont care what bat they use. Be it 300 or 30 dollar it wouldent make much difference. There are some kids and I believe this is the group that is constantly mentioned, that arnt bad, but occasionally they swing the bat right where the ball is pitched and wala, bad mechanics and all you have a dinger. And people say it had to be the bat. Its a little of both. H says even a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut. I think thats the true scenario. An occasional miss hit that turns into a 4 bagger. If she were hitting them constantly with bad mechanics then its proof positive its the bat. But it dosent happen that way. If it did she wouldent be considered a poor or a medium hitter.

The old bats were much hotter than what is out today, thats why they have been removed from play. Its common sense. The issue is the general swing mechanics from 10 years ago have totally changed. Mix that with a bat from today and its a pretty sweet deal. Im not saying a kid with bad mech,s cant club a ball they can and do. What Im saying is when you see a kid that hits the daylights out of the ball check under the hood and you will find much more going on than a hot bat.

This argument cracks me up because in a way both sides are correct to a point. The post that stated its a mix of mechanics and bat is the correct one imho. I dont care if you have a 1000 dollar bat if you cant make contact its worthless. And the walmart bat that Musty is fond of can still launch a ball by a kid that swings well and has good mechanics. Just food for thought, If it was all the bat we would have 12u slappers hitting dingers and bunters would be sending the ball past the bags on the fly.

Tim you know 1st hand what the power of a hot bat and great swing can do. otherwise im sure Britt could a saved you some $ over the years. ;&

Earlier some mentioned the Worth 454 as a hot new bat. Noticed Epic Sports is selling them for $233 for -8 & -9 and $245 for -10 right now. Get em while they're hot! lol

You are correct I do know. That's why she always used that old R/T. Did it give her an advantage? It did in my book or I wouldn't have spent the money on them. And there is a reason why she never switched all those years in TB. She could never find another bat that could match the pop that the R/T had. Did it make her the hitter she is. No but it was the best tool for the job as far as she was concerned. So the difference of 20 ft ( if thats what a hot bat gives you vs a walmart special ) is a moot point when your talking going from 300 ft to 280 ft.

Bats are just tools, nothing more. I will stick to my point that if you do not have the skill to use that tool correctly your just like that blind squirrel waiting on your nut.

I agree 100%. Now 210ft vs 230ft is difference from pop fly out to HR ;&

I sell bats for a living at a batting cage and at tournaments as well and also get to try them out before buying them. In my opinion you can't go wrong with the worth 454 Legit, Xeno and Easton Stealth. I do sell all of these and I personally like the 454 Legit, I sell more Xenos at tournaments than any other bat, and the Stealth is the best seller at my store. If you're interested call me at 419-334-9455 or mesage me and maybe I can save you some money. Good luck.

These are the stat leaders for College Baseball for years 2010 and 2012. 2010 was the last year of the BESR standard and 2012 is the 2nd year of the BBCOR standard for College Baseball. The BBCOR standard makes non-wooden bats react like wood bats. The BESR standard is still the current standard for the fastpitch bats. In other words, the college baseball bats have been dumbed down. Let's see if dumbing down the bats had any effect on the best of the best in the college world.....you know, the kids with the great mechanics. Check out the huge difference in Slugging Percentage. It appears the hotter bats do indeed help even the statistical leaders in college baseball.

Batting Average
2012 2010
1. .434 .456
5. .419 .443
10. .408 .434

Slugging Percentage
2012 2010

R/T are the best IMO.

My DD is a very strong 14U and she is now being able to hit with that thing. It is just a different animal than the rest.

I think a couple of things about the R/T. They are -9s and end loaded. And to hit with them well you need a very good swing. I think most girls will tend to cast a bit with an end loaded bat until they have enough strength and swing memory to swing it proper. But once you have all of that.....watch out. My DD has been using it in hitting lessons since the season ended. It is a 2004 that we got used for $200. And all I can say is I hope it is street legal. Because the ball comes off that bat at a supersonic speed.

Last year she swung a CF4 and hit 3 balls over 230-240. Unfortunately they were not at fenced parks. Next year she enters HS and it should be fun since about 99% of all HS fields have fences (except her HS).

I often wonder why more girls do not swing the R/T. But it may just be the weight and the fact that they are end loaded. Being double walled aluminum you would think the fact that they are almost unbreakable would make more parents want them.

Did you play the Static and win or loose based on bats? Even when they went up to 16 and faced your buddies girl they lost.....must have been the bats not the kids swinging it....Good Luck!
Nice attempt to turn a well played game by both sides into a cheap punch line for your argument. 1-0 against Les' team...Wish we were on the other side, but we weren't. I have nothing but respect for what Les and Kavin done with their teams. It's funny how you always try and take credit for the success of anyone who has ever worked with you. I chuckle everytime! You have never seen my team play and hit, so why is it that you think you know what I teach?

Hope you are finding success without Crystl, she seems to be doing great without you! Watched her hit at the ALL SANCTION WORLD SERIES, guess what? She can still hit, even without you!!

agreed, great game for sure. Thought we were going to get it a couple times! Defensive battle and your pitcher ate us up with her movement. Never could string it together. Best movement we saw all last year, even when compared to 14u ASA/USA Nationals and of course granted she's 16u. Yeah, Crystl can flat out hit... I've worked many clinics with her... she'll flat out tells everyone in each session that she could hit the cr@p out of the ball prior to the big guy, he added 50-75' to her swing. And with her delivery and context, she's say's "why not add it". Not defending Howard, just telling you what she's said publicly.

In all honesty, Howard dragged my very poor coaching out of the gutter... I had the energy, just not the knowledge... he and the working of clinics with Crystl, Marry Ellen, and Marcia helped beyond what most know. He guided me a tooon and for that I'll never forget! I always thank those that helped us including Buster Combs pitching guidance/training and for sure Misty Bridges for more than just pitching! She's been a huge help for us beyond just pitching! In fact, Misty is a source of ongoing knowledge and we love her "want to" ability to help anyone! Surrounding ourselves with those that are gifted is a blessing we won't turn our backs to. So, thanks again!

It says a lot about you to give credit where you feel credit is do. I can appreciate that. A lot of coaches have a hard time doing this. Not to split hairs but the pitcher is only 14u not even 15 yet. I will say that was one of my favorite games of the season. Like I said wish the outcome would have been different, but your girls did a great job.

If the bat didn't matter, the NCAA would not go to the extent it does to test them. Every bat that is used in the NCAA Regional and World Series softball tournaments are tested on site. Bats that do not pass the test are seized by the NCAA and are never returned to the team. I feel the most important thing about the bat is....... what the player thinks about the bat, hot or not!. I can tell you from experience this matters. Many players have more confidence in the bat than they do their own mechanics and abilities.
