2012 DeMarini Bustos: DXBFP Fastpitch

This is my dd's bat. Even when it first came out it cost the same. And she still managed to be one of the top hitters on the team....and it's what you consider "cheap aluminum".
I dont consider $120 cheap , but yes We have owned the Bustos b4 that and current model and both were poop. Same girl same swing my DD CF4 hope added 40 ft to her swing. Yesterday's pop flys are todays HR's. Im sure your DD could hit with a 2x4 to but why would you want her to? I bet you have high speed internet at home, why you can surf perfectly well with slower speed. High speed is more enjoyable way to use the internet, Hitting lasers and bombs is more enjoyable way to hit the ball/

This is such a mute point LOL. Every dugout ive seen at any tournie at any age looked like a sporting goods store. 8u swinging xeno's. Yes they are not using the bat right and wasting money but its where our sport is. If you dont want to pay for it your DD can use my DD's bat and ill bet money your bat sits in her bag all year. once you feel the ball off a high end composite or metal(rockettech) its no turning back

I don't know what you mean here, that bat is on clearance for $49.99. It was proabbaly $300 when it first came out, that's why I said you can get good bats at decent prices if you don't mind the older models and look for the deals.

What I mean is, it wasn't a cheap bat when it was first out. I have never seen anyone use that bat which is maybe why you can get it for $50.00. The really hot bats are selling for more than their original cost NIW if you can get it.

Les and Kavin have awesome teams, and I'll bet most everyone if not everyone on their teams swing expensive, current technology bats during games. Also, check out Candrea's team or all the top college teams...I bet there are no single wall 7046 aluminum bats being used during games. I wonder why that is??? I'll tell you why.....because the bats of today are on steroids compared to wood and single wall 7046 aluminum bats of yesterday. A good hitter can hit with an old-school bat, but they hit the ball a heck of a lot better with today's bats. If that tidbit wasn't true there would not be a market for the expensive bats.

Len

thanks Lenny but let's not get ahead of ourselves. I've been avoiding replying... puts some type of target on us unintentionally and that isn't fair to the girls. I'm sure Kavin agrees. I won't talk batting avg, wins/losses, doesn't matter... our team does keep up with the "Jones-es" when it comes to bat technology. Just like I like to keep up with some of the latest TV technology, phones, higher efficiency cars.... IMO, without technique, you have nothing. That goes without saying even with the most gifted. Even Usain Bolt has some level of upper training/technique. Even if not an Olympic trained runner he'd still be able to whoop most in a foot race. Pairing freakish ability to the best shoes, socks, etc he's even better.

For us, getting on base is the goal and we'd love to do that consistently. Some games yes, some no. As we get older the abilities either come closer together amongst teams or parity in our area seems to level the game, not sure which and probably not area specific. So, for me... I'll continue to support efficiency in training, in equipment, and work hard. If it works with a Wal-Mart bat... why spend the bucks. The "girls" think it helps and I'll take that to the bank.

I'd like to see "sports science" prove it. Maybe I'll write them to see if they'll take the assignment. As with any situation, those that train with sound mechanics typically have an edge regardless of their equipment, even if athletic ability is equal. Luck is a huge friend too... :).

Not being political here. Just my personal position on the subject for I'm for sure no expert and have limited years (7 in fastpitch). As a kid, I too would go for the top dollar "anything"... perception is a huge thing in anyone's mind. And, if it's top dollar training that makes the difference... hmmm, just might be worth it. Howard, maybe we should be paying you $100/hour, yeah, that's it. Not costing us enough :cap:.

I just saw the NEW XENO - pretty cool looking. Don't let your DD's see it or you will be buying it!!

I can hear it now... they are great hitters... not because of mechanics.... not because of bat pop.... not because of mfg techniques....not because its a non-Wal-Mart purchased bat... because it just looks cool and it just makes "Sally" hit them 300' bombs! Let the bat graphic designer wars begin!!!

I won't take on the debate and for the record but I hear that Barack Obama might approve this message.

This thread makes my head hurt!!! LOL. There is not a debate put two bats 1 low end 1 hi end in a machine controlled test with robotic arm testing and hi speed cameras. Take all the human aspects out of it swing speed, stance weight shift etc. The high end will out perform the low end. PERIOD.

Since we are human and have flaws why would you not want a bat that is more forgiving and has a bigger sweet spot to counter the human flaws that could arise.

How does acknowledging the difference in bat performance somehow devalue hard work, skill and technique? I played with Guys that could hit a softball 310 with a wooden bat. Does that mean they should have used a wooden bat? No....why? Because instead of hitting 15 homeruns, they chose to hit 150.

I agree, this thread is giving me a headache...

Walmart trapped me. I was walking by the sports dept this spring and there were these clear buckets stacked up with a dozen balls with an NCAA stamp ( I wonder how much those rights cost) - for $24 each. Of course I bought 2 buckets full. How bad can they be? Should be ok for tee work or front toss - right......lol One month in and the balls looked like eggs. Lesson learned.

I see girls all the time come to me with high dollar bats. And some cant hit it consistently, some are dead pull hitters. Heck some even cant make contact. Some of the mechanics I see are so poor at first that I dont care what bat they use. Be it 300 or 30 dollar it wouldent make much difference. There are some kids and I believe this is the group that is constantly mentioned, that arnt bad, but occasionally they swing the bat right where the ball is pitched and wala, bad mechanics and all you have a dinger. And people say it had to be the bat. Its a little of both. H says even a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut. I think thats the true scenario. An occasional miss hit that turns into a 4 bagger. If she were hitting them constantly with bad mechanics then its proof positive its the bat. But it dosent happen that way. If it did she wouldent be considered a poor or a medium hitter.

The old bats were much hotter than what is out today, thats why they have been removed from play. Its common sense. The issue is the general swing mechanics from 10 years ago have totally changed. Mix that with a bat from today and its a pretty sweet deal. Im not saying a kid with bad mech,s cant club a ball they can and do. What Im saying is when you see a kid that hits the daylights out of the ball check under the hood and you will find much more going on than a hot bat.

This argument cracks me up because in a way both sides are correct to a point. The post that stated its a mix of mechanics and bat is the correct one imho. I dont care if you have a 1000 dollar bat if you cant make contact its worthless. And the walmart bat that Musty is fond of can still launch a ball by a kid that swings well and has good mechanics. Just food for thought, If it was all the bat we would have 12u slappers hitting dingers and bunters would be sending the ball past the bags on the fly.
