When Softball gets Ungly

You have to be kidding me. Now we are going to make up lies to try and defend this whole incident. The Emeralds coach has class, you have none. Slander???? His daughter on the ground crying after a girl flexed over his daughter . Real tough and competitive!!!!! I watched the game also , and I never saw anyone with big wounds anywhere. You guys need to fess up, it was a horrible act, accept it, do whatever to try and right the ship. To try and keep defending this is just adding to your stupidity and your low class values. I do agree, she is just a 13 year old girl, but you arent doing anything to correct it, just keep defending it. The spineless umpire should have ejected her the moment she flexed. From the previous posts, you tried out and didnt make Thunders team, this very well could be where the issue lies. What a great decision by Thunder. This girl has been taught that this is acceptable , by her parents, period. Saying that the mother issued death threats is another lie. There were plenty of people right beside them the whole time, you know its a lie, so just cut the ****. Youre going the wrong way with all of this, it just keeps getting worse every time you post. Time to man up, face the truth, and stop the nonsense. Youre making yourself look REALLY BAD!!!!

Wishing Avery a speedy recovery. I know the Emeralds coach is stand up guy, and this is not a reflection of his coaching. Ohio Attack.

We do know Jason and he is the best. If I were not a Coach...my dd would tryout for him in a heartbeat! This is not.the game he teaches nor condones based on his reaction. My practice tonight ended with a teachable moment about what I mean about breaking it up vs what malicious means. And what pop and get out off the way is all about. We are trying to get our team to Thunder level. We pray that your girls bounce back and that Jason
isnt thrown under the proverbial bus!
He is in it only for the girls.

It is obvious where new post is coming from and it's disgraceful....not even worth commenting on the majority of it.

However, to set the record straight about the earlier play at home....that did NOT involve Avrey as the "new" poster said. It was another player on the team. I did not see anything after the play but the catcher also fist pumping over that runner and telling her to stay off her plate.

After reading this all I can say is WOW. I can't imagine that at 12u ( any age really) but 12u just blows me away. I really hope for the kids and the sake of fast pitch softball that this was not pre meditated . It makes me wonder what would be so important at 12 u that this would or should happen. I hope in the end the injured player comes back 100% and gets to enjoy her softball career and ALL parents can realize that this is just a game at the end of the day.

My god what have we done. Were talking 11,12,13 year olds flexing and taunting other players whether there injured or not. Reading these posts sickens me. I was sad that my daughter was playing her last season before going to college to play ball. If this is where the game is going then count me out. Some parents need to get a clue about playing the game with respect.

Do you really think a 13 year old is vicous enough to want to break someones leg? Really? You people are crazy. I got a private message saying I'm a ****tard. Are you kidding. How mature. Pat yourself on the back. Congrats.

No. But I didn't think 12 year olds taunted and flexed other 12 year olds after a contact play either. What are we teaching these kids.

Do you think its normal for a 13 year old to stand over someone laying on the ground and flex, even IF she didnt know the player was injured? A normal or mild mannered child would not even begin to think of doing that.

The intent to cause serious damage I would think was not there, but the aggressive behavior had to be learned from somewhere. This would have probably been viewed just as an unfortunate play had it not been for the show boating after the play was over.

Ok enough is enough. Emeralds coach Jay Smith here. First and foremost the Ohio Emeralds organization, parents, players, and coaches would like to once again wish a speedy recovery for Avrey Steiner. We did not want this incident or accident to happen. It is both scary and sad for anyone to witness an injury, especially during a youth sport event. Our players and fans alike were shocked by the incident and immediately stricken with concern for Avrey, the injured player. We as Emeralds coaches try and exemplify high moral character, behavior and leadership and in turn try to instill in our players to practice good sportsmanship...so I am not going to allow all this verbal bashing to continue to happen of my friend and head coach Jason or of our Emeralds Team in general! We have a great team that I am proud to be part of. The base runner or player in question was new to our team this year and we have had to speak to said player's parents about some unsportsmanlike behavior on a few occasions and thought it had been resolved. I truly believe the injury was an accident (and hope it was); however the taunting or disrespectful behavior that was openly displayed by our former player after the injury was unacceptable and is not condoned or tolerated and thus the player was immediately taken out of the game and then released. Secondly, it is appalling to me as both a coach and parent of the blatant lack of professionalism and class that was displayed to our (Ohio Emeralds) players and spectators alike during and after this incident. Not to mention how this forum has become a verbal trashing site. None of us would ever wish a child to be injured and we are all praying everyday that our own child does not get hurt. My wife and some of our other parents and fans were approached and verbally threatened repeatedly to stay away, far, far away and that they would be f###in killed as they remained seated on the first base side as Avrey was carried past them. To have our parents and fans threatened is appalling. Even though emotions would be very, very high doesn't give anyone a free pass to threaten people especially people not even involved. These are 12 and 13 year old girls and their families. Apparently people need to be reminded that they are at a tournament to support and yell for their team and to enjoy the skill and competition; not to intimidate or ridicule the other team and its fans or act like this is an "out for blood competition" as opposed to a fun youth sporting event. It is a privilege to be part of the game, not a license to verbally assault others, ridicule players and/or elude to the fact that the Ohio Emeralds: current players, coaches, parents, fans etc...meant to cause harm to a child or wanted to end the "Thunder's Season." Furthermore, I would like to apologize to the Emeralds families/players....our girls worked their butts off to get to where they were playing at this tournament only to see their hard work just go down the drain, as we removed the player from the game (the only right thing to do) even though she was our only catcher and pretty much throw in the towel for the rest of our season as a result of one player and the domino effect that is now happening as our coaching staff and team is being drug through the mud!

Well stated, coach.
It sounds like you guys did the right thing after this happened. It was the right thing to do.

Ohio Emeralds coaches Jason, Jay and Ian have been coaching my DD since she was about 10. They are some of the best coaches in this sport IMO. Jason, Jay and Ian have taken the time to work with my DD, coach her, teach her and mentally prepare her for this sport when she wasn't even on their team and played for the 99 Emeralds. They allowed her to come to their practices and participate in agility training and included her even after we were no longer a part of the Emeralds organization. These men are truly in this for the love of the game and to teach these young ladies to the best of their abilities. I don't think anyone out there can state anything otherwise and I believe they handled this situation appropriately. The organization/coaches/other players or parents should not be judged by the unfortunate actions of one player/parent.

Wishing both players a healthy recovery. Well said coach Jay. You all handled a bad situation the right way. May both teams learn from this and get back to playing some ball!!!!!

I wish Avery a speedy recovery and in my families prayers, that's first and foremost.

I do not know what happened, did not see what happened or anything. This may be an old school of thought, but has anyone taken into account what their watching on television or playing on video games. I know watching the 4 major sports taunting is all of the time. Watching some of my daughters television shows, there's some form of taunting going on (just from the glimpses I've seen). WE do it to each other when rivalries in sports are facing each other and we're throwing that party. Taunting is a learned behavior. Just throwing that out there for thought.

Once again, my dd's and I will pray for Avery and a speedy recovery. Jeff is a great guy for those who don't know him.

There is no doubt that my next coaching job will be at an orphanage (sp)
Death threats at a softball game, and girls "puffing or flexing" at another athlete at 12u this is getting out of control parents.
Kids first please...

Jay, the only trashing of the emeralds or of your coaching staff was done at the hand of your ex-player's father. I think everyone here has much respect for the emeralds organization and were happy to see you took immediate action against said ex-player.

I think to an extent your right but it all starts at home in parenting IMO. I can tell you if that was my kid that was flexing over another athlete she/he would have been taken off the field by me and nobody else, and not been allowed to play again untill they learned some sportsmanship.
