ethics on tryout posting

Does the OFC police register any control over the tryout postings? Specifically in terms of deceptive claims in reference to sponsors, coaches, etc.?
Or is it simply caveat emptor???
Of course, Little Suzie and her mommy and daddy will find out in time they've been duped, but where does the OFC stand on known false claims?

yes we agree with bigtrain. IS this a case of falseified advertizing?

bigtrain, I am curious what you are referring to. I see some seemingly glorified stuff on here, but are you really saying that some people or organizations are lieing?

It would be nice to know what it is that has gotten your attention.

I think caveat emptor means something like " buyer beware".

Seems there is a post implying that a team may not be part of an organization that they are claiming to represent. ?As to policing, with over 13167 posts on here, it's rather difficult unless the offended organization was to register a complaint. ?Otherwise, it's just one member's word against another's, and enters that gray area.

Big Train,

The Bear is correct. To read and research the thousands of posts on this forum is simply not possible. The next best thing is for every family to be prepared to ask questions and do some research prior to and after attending tryouts.

This is a pretty good place to do some research as there are many members of the softball community that visit this forum regularly. We just ask that all "negative" reference not be posted publically and that these types of communictions be done by IM or email.

Good Luck

IMHO Expecting someone to police tryout postings is unrealistic.

GO INTO TRYOUTS WITH YOUR EYES AS OPEN AS IF YOU WERE BUYING A NEW CAR. ?Sometimes we get so caught up in the color of the paint we forget to get the DETAILS straight!

(I don't suggest kicking the next potential coach or manager though!)

A_THunderbolt_Mom,

I agree whole heartedly, I would even suggest talking to former players and parent of that team and or coach.

I would even suggest doing background checks on coaches, or parents and find out any criminal or police records.

One can't be to carefull, specially with all the child mulesters and other people out there.

Okay, we're new at this - my 11u has been "sheltered" within one decent/honest organization to date, we're just now testing the market at the 12u level.

Naively & Humbly asking, What do we keep our eyes open for?

1. Coaches lying about how they view your daughter/position?
2. Coaches lying about their success with past results & player development?
3. Coach from hell burning baby daughter out with pressure tactics?
4. Molesterers (for those who enjoy South Park)?

Thanks.

I think anyone that works with children should produce a BCI check showing a clean past. It won't prevent everything but it's a start.

Just like Rodney said in Back to School:
``It's a jungle out there.''
Check out the claims -- anybody can type anything they want, it's up to the parents to check it out
And don't assume -- last year my daughter went to LA and played a few tournaments in the fall with the SoCal Hurricanes -- she was a high school frosh as were all the other 5-foot-10-and-taller players!!! After getting all set with the team, the coach levelled -- they were all 14U eligible and he was going to make a run at the 14U ASA national title!!!
She told him she wasn't about to go from playing against 18-year-old seniors in high school to 13-year-old kids. That's no way to get ready for college ball.
Lesson learned (and we knew the coach from our older daughter!!! another lesson learned)

Coaching, Player & Parent contracts about ethic's, expectations and morals are a good indicator to use.

If the team you're looking at doesn't have em see if they will get em. If they don't got em... well what does that tell ya!

PLEASE avoid the teams where a "Pitching Daddy Coach/Owner" just has to have his DD bat 4th & pitch every championship game. It will be a Long Hot Summer with a team like this!! IMHO..

Bold 1 (Isn't this a lonely number, sort of like hmmmmm),you forgot to mention the other types.Such as parents whose kid is the only athlete on the team who plays one position and bats in the same spot in the order because they purchased golf clubs for the coach type parents. You wouldn't want to forget those parents.A team of this structure may just make a weekend feel like a long, very long and hot, very hot summer.LOL...........IMHO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Click,Click--------------------------BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! Take it away BearMay
