sour grape posts (i swear this one isn't--i'm just venting!)
EZ-ups that snag my fingers
when the wheels of my cooler get muddy
rain
ringer having more posts than me in a 24-hour period
port-a-johns
rain
rain before a tourney

I saw the first line of your post, and thought I'd share something new to me from the a Florida ASA qualifier I am coaching in this weekend. The tournament is all ASA rules, except they have changed the time limit (I had always thought ASA qualifiers had to be full games, but I'm probably wrong). They do an hour and ten minute time limit... kind of. At an hour and ten minutes, the umpire must announce the time is dead. You then finish that inning, and then play one more inning with no time limit. The idea is to allow both teams the opportunity to know that they have one more at bat, rather than trying to rush through things to sneak in under the gun. I really like the idea, and I wondered if it was isolated to down here, or if that was a trend that had been seen elsewhere.

Coach T,

I've been floating that idea for a couple of years now, but nobody ever seems interested in it. I have yet to see it adopted in any game in this area.

I think this is an excellent format to both get the games in within a set time frame and prevent the rampant "clock abuse" that everyone seems to hate.

Amen straightleg!! only good thing about my 4 hour wait this weekend. I got to go see dd's twin play part of two rec games. Lot of driving but it was worth the miles to see her play. On Saturday, I got to see all that is great with travel ball and all that is bad with travel ball. Left the house at 9:00 and got home around midnight. What a day!!!!

8:30 a.m. games? We should be so lucky. We had 2 8:00 a.m. games this weekend, which meant reporting at 7:00 a.m. and leaving for the field from the hotel at 6:15 a.m. But the tournament was great, so it's definitely a love-hate relationship. :)

YES!!! Why can't we get to the point where we have almost Real Time results posted on tournament web sites? :-/

3 day tournies where you go back and forth between 2 parks 3 times ..............and the parks are 30 plus miles apart . really puts the "travel" in travel ball. I'd guess we drove over 100 miles just going from location to location.

$ 3 french fries
$6.50 cheeseburger platters
$ 13 weekend admission pass
$3.50 for a lg fountain soda
"No coolers "
$2.50 powerades
Listening to cool male athelets watching your 12u girls game HOLLERING " Man there is no way I could hit that FU#$%ing pitch" about once an inning.
wasting time between innings
rain on the weekends

When your dd has been playing travel ball for 3 years and still has to be reminded to get her cleats (or some other important piece of equipment) before leaving home. ?>:(

...and paying $3.99 for a gallon of gas...

I hatel

long walks from the parkinglot with a pop-up net, a camera bag and a bucket of balls

see above and realizing your sunscreen is still in your car

8:00 am game - 2:00 pm game - 8:00 pm game - but its compuware so its a true Love hate thing

breakfast at the hotel with no bananas

the smell of my hat after the 8:00pm game

when a lousy straight up the river beats my 3 of a kind

thinking you'll treat yourself to some sam adams at the hotel and realizing it doesn't have twist off caps

sending a girl home and getting her hard tagged at the plate

talking to pretty moms between innings anf getting plunked with a bad warm up throw

thinking the cleaning lady will take car of empties from the 8 people that played cards in your room that night and realizing that in MIchigan ?all those bottles were worth a dime each and she didn't want to take them by mistake - and she turns off the AC during the humid 87 degree day and the beer smells like Statmans garage after a buckeye party - at least the room didn't smell like stale sam adams cherry wheat....

I love walking back to the car with a camera bag, a bucket of balls a pop up net ... and a trophy :)

MD,

Only 2 parks ? We had to take the tour of all 3 involved.

Did you have a coupon for the Powerade? Mine cost more like 2.90.

I hate complaining about the parks being far apart but it's just tough with high gas prices. If you knew you played at one park on frid/sat then the other on sunday you could book your hotel accordingly, but you can't wait til a week out to be booking hotels a week prior. We got the rumpke - Rivershore -rumpke tour. The concession prices at rumpke are just out of hand.
Oh well , it's only money :) MD
