I'm not sure if he was or not. The question that I have is, how can a low life like this steal $50,000 and get released on his own recogizance? Definitely not the first time that this has happened in softball and it won't be the last.

Yes, he did coach at the Queen of Diamonds. His own daughter played in Europe in 2015 on a team from QOD. That is going to make a lot of people wonder where all the money came from to pay for the trip to Europe.

Most organizations are tax exempt under 501c3 status. Under the law a 501c3 must have a board of directors and the president can not be the treasure. Do organizations not know this or are the choosing to ignore it? I know most parents wouldn't know this, but parents need to be asking questions of the coaches\organization directors and if they are not answered straight up I'd be concerned. Financial statements should be available when asked for.

They weren't a 501(c)(3).

I would never blame the parents for anything they did or didn't do. It's his character flaw, not theirs. Just sad it happened to these hard working kids and families.

I just can't figure out how anyone could do this???????
The big kicker is most teams never have very much in their accounts to begin with.........Usually as soon as it comes in, it goes right back out.......
So how where 6 teams able to run for 3 years with $$$ being taken from them? On average that is $3000 from each team each season...........How much were these teams bringing in, for them to be able to keep going till now?

The way I understand it - (And if anyone knows more detail please correct me)
It started innocently enough. "Oh crap I don't have any cash on me for gas, Oh well I'll use the Club Bank card" and it was so easy to use it and pay it back the using got more and paying back got less

This is always a slippery slope when you are handeling someone elses money with out supervision. I'm sure the ol' Devil was on his shoulder saying "Naah it's ok no one will miss it." and it just kept escalating.

Checks and balances. Make sure everyone is accountable to someone else that can track transactions. No 1 person should have all access with no one else knowing what their doing. Most people are trust worthy but don't put yourself in position to get burnt. You never know these days

Really ??? There is no excuse for what happened. So he has the organizations Debit card with but not his own ? I have heard many stories ...At 1st I thought it was just miss management , trying to grow to big to fast. But I'm sorry $50,000 in hole in less than 4 years ...I know for a fact many were aware of issues last year. Here is just a couple of things I have heard :

Some Coaches had to pay for uniforms last year with there own money
14 u team showed up for world series , and fees were not paid ...parents had to scramble and pay when they got there
Hempfield rec owed money
Youngwood owed money
U$$$A owed money
Hot shots owed money
Field dry supplier owed money
Tried to overcharge parents 2-3 the actual amount for a Ginny Fitch clinic
Cash bash $$$$ , misspent / pocketed

Again this is what I heard , I have no supporting facts ...My DD has not played for this organization , but many of her friends got burned . Big time ...If you can please donate $10.00 to 25.00 on the go fund me site to help the girls play this summer that would help.

I am in no way excusing what he did - I'm saying the way the money was organized should NEVER happen. You should never have one person un-checked handeling money - because BAD things happen.

He is a Sifor and a creep for giving in to the temptation and deserves all the punishment, Humiliation and shame he gets.

My only point was meant as a warning to other Organizations not to allow anyone to handle money without accountability and oversite because it is easy to be corrupted in that situation.

BY ALL MEANS GO HERE: https://www.gofundme.com/p7mpef84 TO HELP OUT THE GIRLS -

Right over here!
Working in the private sector this type of crap happens all the time. Whenever there is money, and substantial amounts of money at that, human nature has a tendency to make poor decisions. I am not making any justifications for what happened, however this type of stuff will happen more and more as the sport grows. Organizations who have these types of funds must properly vet those who control the purse strings. Extensive backgrounds on personal credit and financial background is a must. If a person can not manage their own personal finances how will they handle the organizations? Just like criminal backgrounds are important so is a financial one. My bet is this terd had a poor financial position personally and it lead to accessing the organizations money.

WOW!! I am just speechless...he was my my DD's coach for the most recent QDN at Kent State this past January. Seemed like a very genuine and honest person in the short period of time we spent with him that weekend. As a matter of fact she was considering signing up for QDS and we wanted him to be her coach for that as well. Perhaps there is more going on that what the news article has interpreted?? The media is infamous for leaving out big details and in turn can often misinterpret the real situation.

This was my point - Temptation is tough. While you should never succumb to temptation - you should also never put yourself or anyone else in to the position where they can succumb.

I'm in no way forgiving him for what he did - but he should never have had that kind of access to that kind of money.

There was just a story on the news a week or so ago - someone from the local VFW did exactly the same thing. If there is no oversight this stuff will happen.

Softballmom7, don't feel bad , I also thought he was a nice guy. My DD never played for him. But I talked to him several times over the last couple years. I have sent players and parents in his direction. I really thought he had the foundation set to grow a nice organization. Even though I lost no money , I just feel awful recommending people go there ...ouch :(
