Ah, in the midst of apparent season-ending drama and talk about deficiencies in Ohio travel ball, how it lightens my heart to see your post, Rudy. We will be working hard on our application once the packet is available. Also glad to hear that things look good for another NFCA camp held in conjunction with the tourney; that benefit is available to our players whether or not we get accepted to the tourney.

There are some really, really good things about Ohio travel ball, and the Stingrays tournament ranks right up at the top.

Having seen a few questionable teams in last year's 18U I have a question about the 2012 tourney. Is it true that the OC Outrage from KY has been promised a spot because of one player that is on the team? I was told by a parent that they didnt get in this past year but were promised a spot next year due to one player they picked up.

Just wondering as that might explain some of last year's selections that were drummed as predicted.

False.

Just downloaded ours, although I am applying as a head coach of a 10U team I highly recommend this tourney as a college showcase. My oldest DD has been to it twice, once with the Lasers and again with Dave Day's Magic team. Great competition and a lot of college coaches. I seen a few in 2010 that werent on the list, I happen to know them and they were there the whole weekend. Very well ran.

I have downloaded an application and will be sending it in but, one quick question. I field a team of all 11's in the 12u division, will this be a negative in the selection process or should I proceed with the application.

There are always teams that get left out and teams that get in tournaments. The hardest thing to do as a tournament committee is to get ALL the "correct" teams to make "EVERYONE" happy! When you get more teams than you can accept there will always be unhappy people.

In the past, we have had some "younger" teams in 12U and I would imagine that will be the case again this year. We have room for (24) 12U teams, up from (16) teams this past summer.

We are pleased to announce that the NFCA/Ohio Stingrays Recruiting Camp is coming to Columbus again. Participation in this NFCA administered camp is an outstanding way to showcase softball talent to a large cross-section of college coaches. In a camp setting, coaches get to see lots of repetitions at the defensive position and double digit swings at the plate. It guarantees that coaches see athletes field, throw and hit, in case these opportunities don't present themselves in a game situation.

The 2012 NFCA/Ohio Stingrays Recruiting Camp is Thursday, July 5th at the Lou Berliner Athletic Complex, 325 Greenlawn Avenue, Columbus, OH 43223.

The Ohio Stingrays College Showcase immediately follows this camp on the morning of July 6th at Fred Beekman Park on the campus of The Ohio State University.

The NFCA camp application must be completed online between the dates of February 1 and May 15. Please go to http://www.nfca.org/camps/ to access and complete the application. Note: the application must be completed after February 1 on the NFCA site and not on the Ohio Stingrays site.

Registration is open to athletes of NFCA member coaches starting on February 1st. Starting on February 15th, regsitration is open to all athletes.

In 2011, NFCA administered and endorsed camps together attracted more than 6,000 applicants and 1,000 college coaches from around the country. Don't miss this opportunity in 2012 to showcase your softball skills to the large population of college coaches who will be scouting this Camp. Coaches registered to recruit at the NFCA/Ohio Stingrays camp will be listed on the NFCA website by early June @ www.NFCA.org

The recruiting camp is divided into the following sessions:
Outfielders/Catchers: 8:15 a.m. - 11:10 a.m.
Pitchers: 11:10 a.m. - 2:05 p.m.
Infielders: 2:05 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Please submit your application based on the softball position to be showcased. All applicants will be contacted shortly after the May 15 application deadline with information related to camp status. No payment is required until after May 15 when the letter of acceptance is received.

Additional information is located on the NFCA website as indicated above. The FAQ page provides answers to most of the commonly asked camp questions. Athletes do not have to be playing in the Ohio Stingrays Showcase to be able participate in the NFCA camp.

Please remember that the NFCA/Ohio Stingrays Recruiting camp is administered by the NFCA, not the Ohio Stingrays Tournament staff.

Address all camp questions to Jamie Hazel by emailing jamie@nfca.org or calling 662-320-2155.

Following is the list of teams that have sent in applications for the 2012 tournament. The list is probably not final because a Saturday postmark always produces some Tuesday deliveries - I will update the list Tuesday evening. The full tournament committee will be meeting this Thursday evening. Friday will be a "cooling off" day to make sure of our decisions and if we are not still discussing teams on Saturday, I will start working on the e-mails that afternoon. The e-mails will be out by Monday 8:00 am at the latest because I know I have to be working at my real day job by that time.

The goal of the tournament committee will be to put the most competitively diverse collection of teams on the field that we believe will attract the most colleges and universities to attend the tournament, but we will not sacrifice competitiveness for the shear sake of diversity. Of course, that is with our (11) sets of eyes reviewing the applications, but this is as clear and consise of a statement that I can think to make regarding our process. The depth of quality teams on the list runs very deep and by any measures that any group of individuals from the softball community could come up with will still not be able to make all of the fine teams on the list happy.

The 10U age group will stay open for entries on a first come first served basis until (24) teams is reached. That is probably pretty aggressive for that age group, but there is a lot of time between now and next July.

Who's all in? I heard the invites went out tonight. Thanks

The list is usually not posted until the selected teams have responded back to the TD.

Selected teams are free to, and have in the past, post here on OFC that they were selected.

Thanks all for understanding.:)
