ASA Tournament Ohio Stingrays College Showcase July 6-8, 2012

I wrote top to bottom. We probably didnt play the same teams. Compuware was a good tourney with many coaches.

I'm not crying about it. I said we wanted in. Who doesn't want in it that feels they deserve it. I'm not bad mouthing any teams that are in it, but feel we can play with most. You should know that. If the Xpress didn't get in, you can bet there'd be someone on here speaking up for their team.

Miami Valley Xpress 14u did not get in ...But, Hey we went 5-5 in a 16u league in the fall (played againt college bound players and high school seniors).... Do we need to do better. Yes ... Will that help for next year. Yes...Complain about getting in does nothing to help anyone....Staying positive working for other tourneys and working for the fun for the players!! Sometimes its not about what you want, its about what you do with what you get!....................Just saying.....

So you are wrong we did not get in and we are not on here complaimimg.... just looking ahead to next year and next year Stingrays tourney!!!

I get that the selection committee has a difficult job narrowing the teams for acceptance, and since I wouldn't want the job, I'm not going to gripe about them personally..... but let's be honest,....in some cases (notice I said some) it is about who you know and how long you've been around.

IMHO Cincy Doom North has never been recognized by the Stingray selection committee as worthy to participate regardless of the strength of schedule or roster. Each year they were denied it was asked what they needed to do to increase their chances of admission, and each year they did as suggested. They beefed up their schedule...ASA States, Lasers Invite, GAPSS, ASA qualifiers, finished 7th ASA regionals 2X (yes I realize it's ONLY regionals)...faired well in all (2010 beat Doom-Wear team 2X- meant respectfully), still not good enough...needed to attend ASA/USA....so 2011..Fall BOB, ASA qualifier, ASA States, Lasers, GAPSS, and went to ASA/USA...played respectfully against Lasers White, Wolfpack Kyler, SGS Magic and others, still result this year...not accepted. Sour grapes you say?...darn right! If it wasn't such an illustrious tournament, nobody would give a damn. Bottomline...sometimes it just doesn't matter what you do, or how many hoops you jump through...it's just not in the stars. So in the end, you have no choice but to pull up your big girl panties and move on...it's not the end of the world, although at times it feels like it...LOL

We have done the same things and jumped thru the same hoops, played and beat alot of the teams picked over us. we have put 10 players into college in the past 2 years alone and its still not good enough. We didnt even bother applying this year. As much as wed like to be in it, you can get it done without attending this tournament.

If they want to go to school for softball they will go. Now if you are a college coach still looking for 2013 players, would you want to see the doom with 3 of the top rated players? How many of the 18 U teams going to Stingrays have 3 highly rated players that have not decided where they want to go.

I understand what you are saying but, in the 10 years I have been coaching Fastpitch it is rare that a College coach will be walking around an event and just find that stud player.
There are those rare situations where a coach may be watching a game and something outstanding happens and their interest is drawn to another player but that is rare...Usually this will happen when you are facing top competition and the opponent has a track record of having coaches look at their players. Not a good strategy but one exercised by Many Players/Parents...

Most Coaches will have a a list of players they want to see and a schedule they will try to follow. Since a lot of Showcase events do not use back tags it would be difficult for a coach to know eligibility requirement (age/grade) ACT scores etc unless the players communicated with them at some point prior to the event.
If the players are communicating this those coaches will find a way to see them or invite them to one of their camps.

As far as teams having uncommitted top players hopefully there are several still out there and all in this tournament since one of the requirements are that players are not committed but as has happened in years past 13/14u playing up and committed players do tend to find their way into these events.

Xpressdad is not even associated with the Xpress. I think he is misleading and trying to cause arguments between people associated with the Xpress and gullible guys like me.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I am not in agreement with recruiting rankings experts. I was just showing you the website.

With that, I think there is usually a little merit with some of the girls, but I can't believe these people that make these rankings have seen every girl in the state.
