Wednesday Fun...What 1 rule would change?

I like the 100 minute rule. 70 minutes or even 60 minutes just is not worth it. Does the better team always win these games?

Twice this year our team came back in the top of the 5th (technically have the lead), but since time was up the home team didn't get to bat-Bye-bye runs in the 5th and we lost the game. Ugh-at least finish the inning.

I know that time limit have to be there because of all the teams at the tourney, but I have been to a lot more this year that have hour and a half to hour and 40 minutes. IT can be done TDs-just saying.

Sounds like to me you go to the wrong tournaments . Just saying....:)

A pitch that hits the dirt before hitting the batter would simply be a Ball. No first base awarded.

'Just a thought...

I vote for this one....I like when they are little and a change up rolls up to their shoe...at least make an attempt.

Definitely-Lesson learned for the next time. Most of them this year have been long enoung to complete an entire game.

Most of them became shortened due to rain (understandable), but at least finish the inning.

Thanks

I agree with this one too.

And the leaping pitchers should be okay since leaps don't put them any further ahead, actually stops them from putting drive into the pitch. ;&

43' for all sanctions, 14U and up.

If the ball is rolling and can be avoided, the batter does have to make some effort to avoid it. If she doesn't, she isn't getting first base!

But what about a 60 mph pitch that bounces in front of the batter's box and nails the batter? It's not the batter's fault the pitch was wild or coming through the batter's box. That could be a painful "ball" called on the batter!

Move the bases to 65'. High school softball has become a slap and tickle game. Why even bother teaching kids to hit anymore?

My DD has made a huge 7 year success of what you refer to as "slap and tickle" She has worked hard with hitting coaches to lay down the perfect slap. She has also spent her summers learning new ways to shave off more time on her run to first base. Speed training coaches. She realizes that she will never get the praise like the long ballers get, but she doesn't care. She get enjoyment out of hitting a legit bunt single. Slappers really don't get the respect they deserve. People assume that they are born with fast legs so they are on a team "just tap the ball and run". She has worked hard-and be careful a good slapper and can also swing away for the fence.

Still teach hitting, because not every girl can slap. Maybe tweak your defense training a little to figure out how to play the slapper. Move them to 65' a good slapper will still beat it out or bloop it over their heads..

Sorry I will get off my soap box. This just hits me hard because I hear all the time that she is only on a team because of her legs. If that is the case then long ballers are only on a team because of their arms. JMHO

Just noticed that you edited your comment to take out the word "tickle"

Thank you-but remember slapping is still hitting instruction.

Here is one for both softball and baseball at every level. Want to intentionally walk someone? Declare it and batter gets sent to first. No wasting time throwing the ball.

Most rule books restrict the pitcher from using white on her sleeve. Obviously a rule left over from the white ball era. Either eliminate this rule or change the color. Played a team that had ball-green uniforms last week. It just seemed wrong.

That's the way it is in HS baseball (NFHS) - coach just tells the umpire and batter is awarded first.

And also in many forms of slow pitch.

I'm kind of on the fence with this one. I get the time saving part of it. But if the defense wants to use an intentional walk as a strategic tool to give them an advantage, why not make them work for that advantage by executing it properly.

I could live with or without this one, one way or the other.

Florescent Green and Optic Yellow are two different colors.;&

In baseball, or at least it use to be it was a ball, and you could not hit the ball that hit the dirt for a hit either.

I would vote to Flip the Mening of DP / FLEX like this
FLEX to be Flexible player would mean they hit and can play the field
DP to be Defensive Player would mean Defensive Player only
I think then most people would understand this rule a whole lot better.

Maybe back around 1900...or maybe you've seen it enforced that way in a little league game with a parent pulled from the stands as the umpire. But that has never been an official rule in the modern era!
