I hate the long, quiet car ride home after a tough loss... she's not hungry...not thirsty...doesn't want ice cream...you can't stop at the local cheese barn...

This is a great thread, and I have loved reading the responses!

My #1 pet peeve (by a landslide): players who walk on and off of the field. My daughter would never, ever, ever....even in a sleepwalking delirious stupor in the middle of the night.

It should be taught from the first minute of the first practice of the player's "career". If not, some kind of instinct should kick in at least!

Speaking of parents - one of my pet peeves is when you see a kid make a mistake and rather than looking to her coach(es) for input, the eyes turn immediately to mom or dad. I suppose this falls in the "coaching from the stands" category. Every team has enough coaches in the dug out, in my view.

I would have to agree, they have to be coached by their coaches. But on the other hand, we have been on a team where there was no coaching at all. Safe to say we were only on that team for one season.

My DD gets her fair share of playing time, but my number one issue and this is with all youth sports ( I've seen it with both the boys and girls ) is the classic Daddy / Mommy ball. There are times when I say to myself that a kid should never be on the same team that their Mom or Dad is coaching.

Not a peeve but an observation, look at how fast this topic got to so many pages in such a short time!!! You guys must have had this stuff stored up for a while. Man oh man, there's a lot of pet peeves out there.

FYI, I'm still laughing and shaking my head. I didn't realize there were so many and I had witnessed them all. lol. Great thread.

Wow, So many to chose from.....
1. A player booting a ball and then giving up on the play as the batter runs around the bases; makes me insane.
2. The players gathered around the ball lying on the ground discussing whose ball it might have been, especially that dead zone behind the pitcher, I stutter loudly....
3. PIAA baseball umpires that think softball and baseball is the same game AND can't bend over to see that drop curve break, just calling the glove location, taking away that 3rd strike that everyone including the batter's dad knew was a strike-out looking..... I simply go speechless.

18 year old games at 8AM................. Come on these kids for the most part dont start breathing until noon.

Tim

I just plain hate 8:00 AM games at any age level, but in elimination play it really makes for a long day, thankfully this year we have been blessed by some great girls with great talent that have not forced us into a Sunday 8:00 AM time slot.

My #1 has always been a strike out looking.

Get your hacks, drive your pitch, and expand your zone with 2 strikes!

You might have nailed it!!! 10 push-ups in the dugout for that one (unless Blue really blew it)...

After one day at 18u ASA States, smokers and people with noisemakers. Nothing like sitting in the rain, having smoke blown in your face and listening to a noisemaker LOL.

It will be under excuses....

No kidding, It doesn't happen anymore, but back in travel ball or even high school, aunt flo....lol, was used as an excuse.....sorry, **** poor excuse, toughen up or go home.

A pet peeve of mine is 14u and younger's parents, there are few....very few that get it, but most are clueless.....sorry, truth hurts. Don't worry, when you start playing higher level tournaments, meaning top level Asa, like stingrays, states, best of best, and maybe Asa nationals.....not the recball eastern nationals, you will understand.......:lmao::lmao:.....have a great day people.

So Dan and slapforhits, have you ever gone to an Eastern Nationals tournament? The last one we attended had two very very fine Cincy Doom teams there and they didn't finish in the top ten, so I'm thinking there must have been some non-rec teams there. I would be the first to argue that at USA/ASA there are no games that you can "take off" and that those games do exist at Eastern Nationals, but it's pretty @#!@#!! arrogant to brand that tournament as a rec league tournament. Give me a break.

My stats are strictly for DD's progress. Dad lets me know which hits are true and which are errors-including hers. We track and trend and noticed that her worst performances are the few days before aunt flo comes to town (I know, TMI) but now she knows to use ibuprofen to try and prevent the back pain or just tell coach that she is not very effective today.
Dad just thought this was crazy but guess what, there's a ton of info to be found on-line to support the theory. :yahoo:

I think its awesome - you care enough about your kid to help her understand her strengths and weaknesses, and then she needs to do something about it. Great parenting in my opinion!!
