Wednesday Fun...What is your #1 pet peeve in select softball?

Speaking of parents - one of my pet peeves is when you see a kid make a mistake and rather than looking to her coach(es) for input, the eyes turn immediately to mom or dad. I suppose this falls in the "coaching from the stands" category. Every team has enough coaches in the dug out, in my view.

Good thread and lots of good answers ... my top 3 ...

3) Players and/or parents who miss practices and/or who don't work on their own and still complain about playing time
2) Umps with a chip on their shoulder coming into the game
1) Time limits!!

Oh hellz yeah...just bugs me when others want to, lmao. ;& ;) :D

But seriously, I like to leave the chat for between innings for the most part, lol. I'm a bear of very little brain and I need to concentrate to keep up with the action.

My wife hates chatting too, except between innings. She keeps her own personal scorebook just to help focus and to repel conversation!:D

Sneaky. ;) Of course this opens her up to hundreds of "Whats the score?" questions.

I have my own little black scorebook, it keeps me paying attention and can answer the "what's the score" question with reasonable accuracy. DD always does better when she knows her numbers (k, bb, era). Dad thinks I'm a little crazy but he regularly asks "what does your book say?"

Parents who keep stats

Not always. A parent could be keeping stats for the same reason teams do - to gauge how DD is doing and what areas need to be improved upon, etc..

That said, when a parent is keeping stats so he can go argue with the coach about how great his DD is... well... that's a tad different. Especially when the stats being kept count errors as hits, fielder's choices as hits, etc..

My stats are strictly for DD's progress. Dad lets me know which hits are true and which are errors-including hers. We track and trend and noticed that her worst performances are the few days before aunt flo comes to town (I know, TMI) but now she knows to use ibuprofen to try and prevent the back pain or just tell coach that she is not very effective today.
Dad just thought this was crazy but guess what, there's a ton of info to be found on-line to support the theory. :yahoo:

I guess the above post would fall under "you know you're a pitcher's parent when. . ."

Pitchers parents who keep stats......:lmao:

Heheh... Yeah, every time SHE reaches on an error it's a hit. Every time she's in the circle and someone gets a hit, it's an error on someone I mean... it HAS to be, right?

I'll have to look to see if there's a line in the scorebook for "aunt flo" :lmao:

TravelinMom!

As a young girl, I would never have even acknowledged there was such a thing as a period, much less admit I was on mine.

And if I found out that my mom had been discussing my "condition" with my coach (especially a male one)...I would have simply died of shame. Just sayin' doll, lol...
