What's really sad to me is that, the more stories I hear the less surprised I am. :(

Hope the losing team rallied and they didn't get to see it.

We were at tourny last weekend and a scorekeeper Mom used the Lords name in vein in responce to a bad call. The ump chased her rear right off the field and out the door. It was awesome! If you can't put yourself in check in public I say stay out of the public.

I think people in general people are ruder and less polite than they were when I was a kid. Back then if you got out of hand someone might just punch you in the face. Now everyone sues everyone so people think they can behave any way they please and nobody will do anything about it. Everytime I think I am old enough to not be shocked by peoples behavior I see something that leaves me shocked

When I read the title of this thread, I thought it would be something outrageous. If that's the worst you see, please feel lucky.

This is just a generalization, but it seems people's priorities are really messed up more so now than in the past. I really enjoy sports but over the last 20 years or so, it seems it gets more cut throat everyday (in every sport). I have a hard time understanding why some adults can not keep things in perspective.

Competition is great but not a "win at all costs" attitude that some parents and coaches now have. I remember one teams slogan was ?What ever it takes?. All the parents and grandparents on the team wore their slogan T-shirts so proudly.

Some people, not all, just do not care anymore who they hurt, with words or actions as long as they get what they want. Some people just do not THINK, or care.

Our society has become to fast paced, we need to slow down at some things and reprioritize from time to time.

It doesn?t shock me anymore when I hear a parent or coach say things like you should have taken that girl out with your slide or hit the batter if she is crowding the plate. I just shake my head and think what an idiot.

One year my kid had a coach who at practice told the girls to engage in DIRTY play (bush league). She came to me after practice and told me what he wanted the team to do. I asked her what she thought about it and what she was going to do. She was maybe 8 years old. She said ?I know I am supposed to do what the coach tells me to do but I am not going to intentionally hurt another player, so I might not be playing much on this team?

If a kid that young knows right from wrong, WHY DONT THE ADULTS? :(

Why are we charged for one Friday night game and one or two games on Saturday, and Sunday, and most teams that play only on Saturday and Sunday, their families are only charged for two days? Fridays should be no charge.
How much money do these tournaments bring in?

Dear PuppyMom, although I am not an entrepreneur, nor do I really want to play one on TV, these guys are trying to run a business. If you want to see your dd play, you've got to pay, that's why that indoor facility is there. It would sure be nice if everything was cheaper, but it is what it is.

I help a gentleman run indoor tournaments and they do not bring in as much as you think. Actually in our case we only have one field and only will take about 10 teams.
So the income is limited for this man. He does not skimp on the heat and concessions are cheap..Look at the big picture all the time spent, heat, electric, and water not to mention snowplowing and other expenses.
Now this is only speaking for our tournaments can't speak for others and what they do and charge.

These our fund raisers and all our parents pay just like everyone else.

one of our coaches went out to California a week ago and he was there for his DD for her last major/traveling college "tourney" as a senior. As luck would have it, he stumbled upon another "open" tourney that had Arizona, Oklahoma, and many othe Div I schools there. Pumped as you can imagine, he went to the gate, family and all, it was $16 per person per day!!!! Ouch. He did go in and brought back some great pictures. If one thing is consistent, gate fees at big tourney's is here to stay.

PuppyMom9 you are absolutely right. You should not be charged for Friday games just because the luck of the draw has you starting on Friday while other teams start on Saturday. The tourney should be charging enough on Saturday and Sunday to cover all three days and not be charging the few teams that have to play Friday. They already are penalized for having to drive to the fields and extra day then the other teams. That's ridiculous!

I believe the kids are their to play not the parents, parents are spectators and spectators pay. If you go to ANY sport as a spectator (motocross, rodeo, horseshow ect.) you pay. If paying to get into tourney is that big a problem then maybe travel ball isn't right for you. Rec leagues don't charge to get in, if that is the level you want your DD to play. That said if they were charging as much as a major league venue that could be a problem but they don't most are very reasonable.

before people make comments about what they think they know about, they should make sure they know all of the facts.

The fact is that the umpire in question heard something totally different than what was said, and also he was unwarranted in even making any comments to the score keeper in question because there was no comments made to him.

the score keeper left to avoid a further scene. The umpire in question was being totally out of line and taking his authority over the game too far. People should really not badmouth people without knowing all of the facts.
