My wife and DD were watching the Lasers Orange v. New Era Diamond Girls game when the Lasers pitcher got hit. I am very relieved to hear that she is doing well and is no worse for the wear. Milli, thoughts and prayers for your DD and your family. Sounds like from what Mad Hornet posted, she's a tough customer and will be back on the field at the earliest possible date.
This game can be dangerous but I've yet to see a girl at this level who is 'afraid'...Shark is 100% right...its about SAFETY and not fear. If girls are afraid they wouldn't play no matter how much us dads would try to force them. But this game is not baseball. Girls at much younger ages are throwing harder from a shorter distance (reaction time) where boys aren't throwing quite as hard from a further distance. My DD catches and I did some research four years ago about reaction time for catchers...if I recall correctly, a 55mph pitch from 40 feet was the same as an 85mph fastball from 60 feet...Girls are doing this at 12...boys won't see 85 until high school. The bats mean the ball is coming back out at the reaction time of 110mph (reaction time speed equiv) at 40 feet (which the pitcher is now probably now standing at 35 after delivering the ball)....
There is no way humanly possible to react to that.
just my .02
safety first...anybody that questions the toughness of these young warriors is a dolt.
