Was there any warnings or ejections in this contest?
Like most, as I read through the post I am shocked for acouple of reasons. 1. The play as it was described and 2. The lack of involvement from the players coach and umpires....
There are areas of disqualification and codes of conduct in just about every sanctioning body.
If as some posters have stated this was an incident where a player purposely injured another player and as another poster stated "stood over andtaunted a player" where were the umpires?
I am sure the Coach of the lady in question has had at least ACE training as well the as well as the umpires with training in order to help avoid these situations from happening.
If as it was described in several post was an ongoing issue with the player and started earlier in the game why be passive as a coach or umpire? Take action when needed and apply the training you have received.
Now in the coach or umpires defense, Was the play a positioning issue by the SS/2B? Or, a bad slidingtechnique used by the runner or both...especially at 12U?
Seen it happen a lot.
I have also seen players ejected for un-sportsman like conduct in HS, USSSA and ASA events(mainly at the older ages 16/18).
The hook comes fast when the umpire believes the action was intentional.
If it was a two umpire crew no way this type of conduct should have gone un-noticed or unaddressed... and if the player had a history of this behavior prior to the contest the coach should have addressed it... before it escalated into a injury such as this.
This chain of events is just Sad....
I hope for a speedy recovery for the lady involved...
