Bush League Yelling/Cheering

Wave 16,

We have been in teaching, training, winning, losing softball games in this great sport for over a decade. I was at the game in question, and I have had just about enough of you calling my family (players and coaches) idots and my coaches bush.

Never once did they, nor have they ever directed a cheer against a team or a player, They did not cheer the entire time as they have 10 solid players with 9 quietly playing defense for half of the game. They play with love in their hearts and unstoppable determination. They finish 3rd at a "A" World event last year, they have been together as a unit for over 2 years, and they don't need cheers to beat you, nor did they use cheers to do it. They just out played you this day, this game.

I will agree that the can be loud, but they were not screaming, they never timed it to your pitcher or attempted to disrupt your pitching, yes they do some funny dances but that is them and they are not Idots, they are fantastic young ladies. The coaches on this team are excellent and would never permit bashing nor insanity.

You want you see top shelf, you did this past weekend.

Bush, don't call the kettle black! How many of those same players and players on others teams have YOUR people attempted to get! Before, During and After Games. You will never see us out trying to get players to leave their organizations during the season.

I enjoy watching your teams play, I have seen them as loud as the impact before, and certainly as excited before.

You can say what you wish, but saying I never posted a name in this wild west enviroment is like saying "a man close to GW from Texas shot a man yesterday" you knew it would come out. If you really wanted to you could have emailed the coach or board with your opinions, But don't come on here and talk like they were out of control, raging manics, buring down the dugouts. They cheered as they always do.

By the way Impact was 6-0, Chaos was 5-1, the tournament had 16 teams, with some very solid teams in the brackets. Great Job, and God Bless all the players and teams there.

The cheering in the college world series sounded like my 12u rec team! If the role models are doing it......start making changes there! When my girls cheer it is for their team mates. They try to get in a cheer directed at the opponent from time to time only to be given that "look". You know the look!
I do not agree with the screeching. I do however think the girls should be cheering. You can tell my girls are watching the game because their cheers go hand in hand with the play being made. I see no problem with tasteful cheering. Positive cheering.
In reference to rude parents....get this, I was told after a game a week ago that a parent from the other team made the comment, " fat girl's shouldn't pitch." That girl he was refering to was MY daughter! I guess he said it loud enough for others to hear. Needless to say....I will be trying VERY hard to NOT be ejected from our next meeting should I hear that. >:(

Wave16, your team was top shelf as well. We enjoyed playing you and your team was well coached and very classy. Win or lose, we enjoy playing teams the caliber of yours (on and off the field). You have a fine group of young ladies and I am sure they will have a great experience this summer and take alot away from their time on the field. The girls learn alot of things on the softball field which have nothing really to do with softball. Just something to think about. And just for clarification, we are not really talking about cheering in the sense that most have replied to this thread. More about yelling in the pitchers windup and yelling out the wrong base to throw the ball to when coaching 3rd base (just for 2 examples).

Nightmare,

Wave 16 is talking about cheering period, from Ohio Heat Impact. I sent both of you IM's.

BTW:

If the Ump felt it was out of control they have they authority and duty to stop it! I can't speak for the UMPs but if they agreed with Wave 16's opinion as he states - they could have and should have stopped it.

It appears they did not.

Maybe they were just telling you what you wanted to hear.

We have a stead fast rule. You cheer FOR YOUR team...period. There are no cheers allowed to be directed at the opposition, or highlighting their play - ie, errors or walks.

Oh yea - no bootie cheers!!!!

I was at the mentioned game and have to disagree with Sporses assessment . i think youre sugar coating the facts after the fact just a tad. i think you believe because you won the game, ( your record in the tourney has been mentioned quite a few times already) that this makes it ok, which again, is in the eye of the beholder, but the debate here is NOT if it helped you win or not.
the "cheering" WAS at the top of their lungs and it was DEFINITLY at well timed points of the game, ( pitcher release, plays on the field) to the point where the Ump was a hair away from bringing it up herself.
as someone whos been around this game myself a few years i can tell you, you have a good enough team to do what you did this weekend WITHOUT the behavior demonstrated this past weekend. lets drop this and play ball.........

Cheers for your own team is what I go by. No timing yells or anything like that. The best way for any defensive player to impact those cheers, is do it with a play, focus, do not even look at the bench. Too many defenders spend more time looking at the screaming and not focusing on what's ahead. Beat them on the field if you can, sometimes you can't and tip your hat to them.

85% of the game is above the shoulders.

As for the parents with comments like that, maybe they should look in the mirror.

Everyone has made great points here!

I think Johnnies said it all with his "rules" for watching the game.

As for the College teams cheering - the mics pick up a lot and I don't recall ever hearing someone referring to "big butts" during the world series. They also seem to cheer for their own teammates and not negatives on the opposing team.

Not to debate the issue...but UCLA continued to do the "Arseneal Hall" grunting most of the series from the dug out. ?I don't see how that is positive for their team???? ?
I have been to college games and I have heard the girl cheering from the dugout. ?
Anyways....this is just getting petty now. ?Kids are being called names, adults are taking jabs at each other and nobody is going to win. The girls have all forgotten and moved on. Maybe they haven't forgotten but they have allowed their lives to go on! ?Its the parents that allow these problems to fester and turn into something HUGE! I have had problems with kids from opposing teams and parents from opposing teams. I go to the opposing coach after the game and express my thoughts. I try to be tactful. (that doesn't alway turn out to be the case) Most of the time things get worked out. But name calling on a public forum is definately not going to help at all. Chances are these teams will face each other frequently, then what?

I think the best thing to do is to agree to disagree. ?Set the standards of what is acceptable for your team. ?If you don't like what the other team does - so be it. ?If the umpires think it is getting out of hand they should deal with it and that is who you should take up the issue with. ?

Let play softball. ?I think this horse is about beaten to death.
