Darn safety regulations just gettin' in the way of our rights!!! Helmets for base runners just slow'em down! Catcher's masks??? Why it just keeps them from seeing the pitches better. Batter's helmets with masks???? Ridiculous. When did this become football. Orange safety bases??? Even dumber. No malicious collisions???? Are you kidding me??? When did this become a sissy sport?? Get out of the way if you don't want to get hit. Illegal bats??? Don't get in the way of technology baby!!!! Bring'm and use'm!! And don't get me started on those stupid masks pitchers and infielders wear. If some 14 year old freshman third baseman doesn't want to wear one, by golly, no one, especially her coach should get in the way of her right to stand 40 feet away from a batter ripping a bullet down the line head high.

It's really very simple. It doesn't matter what the child wants, it's what the PARENT wants for their child. Personally, I suggest to the parents the use of the fielders mask. As a matter of fact, I believe every infielder on our team uses the mask. However, it was the parents choice since it is an optional piece of equipment, unlike all the other pieces of equipment you mention above.

You sure feel very strongly about protecting a child on the softball field. Knowing the way you lean politically, I thought you would believe in freedom of (parental) choice.
