"Mandatory/Required" summer practices???

Down here HS Softball is considered "Community Service" by most. The rural schools have more influence over the players because they generally don't play on the top level travel teams.

While HS coaches at the big schools strongly discourage it, kids can play with their travel teams during the HS season. There is not a lot of activity, but most top level teams travel to at least one out of state tourney during the winter and practice or scrimmage CC teams on the weekends.

I think girls should WANT to attend if they can ....NO you can not make them mandatory but make them enjoyable and informational...use the 10 contact to benefit the program..

If a girl plays high quality travel ball see if she can come out and make the others that do not play a little better and build some team chemistry for next year..as a HS coach you need to try to do the right thing for your program and keep it inside the rules..I think if you can use your 10 days and it works than do it ...

My problem is you have a few girls that when the hs season is done they are done with their hs and go on to play travel and or do nothing all summer and when tryouts show up you can tell the ones who have done nothing and those are usally the ones that dont understand why they are not hitting or feilding any better than they did the previous spring

If your DD is not doing anything, then IMO she needs to go to these "mandatory" practices. Reason being, 8 out of 10 HS coaches will hold it against her. It can come back to haunt you. And if she wants to play bad enough, extra practice never hurts.
