the messenger always wears his vest, bullet proof that is
Yes Eagle one
But there was 4 D1 Max 3 D2 3 NAIA The rest were D3
That is sad for a college showcase! Of corse a laser person would reply to that.
How many coaches were at the lasers tournament. My daughters played there before too you have tons. Don't get me wrong if you want your DD to go to a D3 thats great but most don't. This had a ton of D3 coaches singned up. Checked the sign in sheet Sat. morn didn't see but 2 D1 2 D2 maybe 3 NAIA not good for a Great American Premier Softball Showcase
But the 2 big ones are:
1. Are any of the girls emailing those coaches and letting them know that they are interested in that school? If the coaches don't know a girl is interested, they will not come and look.
2. Girls are emailing but still no coaches. Well, then the D1 and D2 coaches are not interested in any of the girls on the team. Cold, but true.
If they are emailing and the coaches aren't showing up at their games, then it is time for a reality check. It is also time for those girls to talk to their travel coach about an honest assessment of their skill set and where it fits into the college softball world. To be honest, their travel coach should have already had this talk with them and their parents at the beginning when they first signed onto the team. College coaches do look for that diamond in the rough that hasn't contacted their school but those are few and far between. They are busy looking at girls that have shown interest in their program. A girl has to take the initiative to market herself. She cannot depend on someone else to do it. Get to the camps. Email the coaches. Set-up visits.
I'm sorry if I seem rather gruff and to the point. And if I have totally missed the point of your post, then I truly apologize.
Still scratching my head how it is ok to allow a player to switch teams in pool but not bracket play..........sounds like a double standard.....either it is ok to do or it is not okay to do.....regardless if it is pool or bracket play.

So the coach made a mistake and he admited he did. We have been in the same situation and lost a birth. But he didn't wine or talk to the td nor did the td talk to us about the situation even though she knew about it. I have run many tournaments including AAU basketball softball and baseball have been uic and never have I told the opposing coach of a violation.
Oh! by the way all the girls on the team have been signed except the 2012s.
so, you're saying you've coached and TD-ed many of these similar events that knowingly play with open rosters or "illegals" (geez, I sound like Gov. Brewer!) and decided not to say a thing? Does that make it more or less classy?
In the end, does it come down to ethics? Regardless if she pinch ran or threw a no-hitter, it's not a person that's on their normal team (and those kinds of pick up players are somewhat frowned upon on other threads).
And if it's any consolation, i too behaved unethically. You should have seen what was in my cooler!
Stop playing by two sets of rules or rules that are convient for your "buddies". Poor decision by the TD.
Again I have not addressed anything more than the situation that caused the forfeit and how it was handled. I talked to several college coaches I know at the tournament. All our 2011 are signed and our 2012 all have several coaches following them every weekend.
I have no gripe with the college coach?s attendance.
You know how I felt about the situation. The fact you knew the player in question well had a factor in your decision and how it was handled. This player was entered into the game as a defensive sub to get my injured player out of the game. You knew she was dressed as you watched the whole game prior to me taking out my injured player. The reason you told the other coach about the player instead of me, knowing she had no bearing on the outcome of the game was for your own reasons. I didn?t know the history.
Bottom line it was my mistake. I have no defense as to why we made the mistake
other than we have been playing short for the past three weekends due to injuries and picked up players. I was asked by my assitant coach about getting her to run before thinking the situation through.
Not sure who Statman is addressing the classy comments to but I will again make sure you understand this was a mistake made by me and not something done intentional to give us an overwhelming advantage. I can own up to by mistakes no problem. I don?t need you to question my ethics. I didn?t even know this girl prior to the game or that she is only 14.
This is fairly common for "showcase" tournaments where pool play is for exposure and wins/losses mean nothing. Some exposure tournaments don't even have elimination brackets. Just a "high" game guarantee. Typically single elim at most to try to give as many pools games as time permits.
College coaches like knowing the game schedules ahead of time so they can plan to see the girls they came to see. Typically, most college coaches have left by the time elimination games start.
In my experience, for showcases that do allow guest players and have elimination, only rostered players can play for a team once elimination begins.
For qualifiers, players obviously need to be rostered players.
