I know two of the girls are playing for the same team in Chicago. One of the girls was approached by the manager of the organization and asked to come play for them. I am pretty sure any girl from this area would be thrilled to have a big name organization recruit her to come play for them! just saying :) Congrats to both of these girls for being noticed for the hard work they have put in over the years! I can honestly say my DD wishes it was her!

For my own curiousity...How many girls that have traveled to California, Colorado, Florida, etc....from Ohio teams, have then decided to play outside Ohio, beyond a contiguous state? I bet the number is very low. JoeA traveled quite a bit with his Heat teams, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think many of them traveled to far away from home when finally picking a school.

90-95% of kids won't go more than 350 miles to school.... so it's a non issue topic...

Now this was a good 2009 Ohio team -

"After winning a remarkable 12 straight games in the losers bracket, Elyria's SunDogs finished second in the country on Sunday in the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) national Class A tournament in Las Vegas. The tournament, which drew 140 teams from across the country, was for players 18 and under, roughly the high school varsity level.

The SunDogs, whose roster includes members of Elyria High?s Division I state champions, former Pioneers and players and former players from other area teams, were finally eliminated, 7-5, by the national champion Tampa Mustangs. The Mustangs went undefeated in eight games.

Coach Duane Sunagel's SunDogs finished fifth in the tournament last summer, when it was held in Moline, Ill. They defeated the Tampa Mustangs in last year?s tourney.

The SunDogs won their first two games before being knocked into the losers bracket. Then they went on a roll. From midweek through Sunday afternoon, the Dogs knocked off Deja Vu, 10-0; Georgia Bandits, 7-0; Tucson Scramblers, 4-3; Georgia Xtreme, 2-1; Bayside Blues, 9-3; South Dakota Renegades, 4-0; Minnesota Sting, 2-1; New Mexico Sundancers, 6-0; Lady Blues, 3-2; Michigan Compuware, 5-3; Team DeMarini, 2-0; and the Southern California Pumas, 5-4. The SunDogs return home today, their season over with a 50-8-1 record. Sito led the team in batting with a .500 average (28 for 56 with five home runs); Keystone?s Erin Pond also hit .500 (19-38 with a homer), Devan Boggs of West Jefferson batted .423 (22-52) and the Pioneers? Ashlee Stolarski .362 (17 of 47). Sito was 8-1 in the circle and Columbia pitcher Jen Solanics went 6-1.

The SunDogs roster included Aleecia Sunagel of Amherst, Erin Sunagel, formerly of Midview; Alex Machen of Lebanon, former Elyria star Jen Bower, Kristen Fyffe, starting left fielder on the Pioneers? 2009 state champs; Solanics and Courtney Traut of Columbia; former Keystone star Clare Sullivan, Amherst?s Amanda Arendt and Teresa Davis of Firelands."

Didn't go on to major programs but what a competative team and all local kids.

LK:

I haven't kept track of all the young ladies who traveled to Florida from JoeA's team, but one went to Belmont (Division I in Tennessee), one is at Dominican College (a Division II school just outside of NYC in the Hudson Valley), and one went to Northern Georgia (again Division II) . One is playing for Division I Ohio University. I think that the remainder of the players are at smaller Ohio schools such as Cedarville, Malone, Findlay, Ashland, Bluffton, Denison, Mount Vernon Nazarene, etc. Sorry if I left out a player's college here.

Not all of players who went to Florida were on the regular roster, as the trips to Florida were voluntary and pick-up players were required. This team also got some good interest from its participation in the USA/ASA 16U Nationals in Seattle, when most of them were juniors if I recall correctly, and from participation in the Boulder, Colorado tournament over the 4th of July.

^^That's all true, but one player did go to Morehead State. Another had a couple of visits to Tennessee, but ended up at Ohio U. Oh, and another went to Liberty in the state of Virginia.
