Now this was a good 2009 Ohio team -
"After winning a remarkable 12 straight games in the losers bracket, Elyria's SunDogs finished second in the country on Sunday in the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) national Class A tournament in Las Vegas. The tournament, which drew 140 teams from across the country, was for players 18 and under, roughly the high school varsity level.
The SunDogs, whose roster includes members of Elyria High?s Division I state champions, former Pioneers and players and former players from other area teams, were finally eliminated, 7-5, by the national champion Tampa Mustangs. The Mustangs went undefeated in eight games.
Coach Duane Sunagel's SunDogs finished fifth in the tournament last summer, when it was held in Moline, Ill. They defeated the Tampa Mustangs in last year?s tourney.
The SunDogs won their first two games before being knocked into the losers bracket. Then they went on a roll. From midweek through Sunday afternoon, the Dogs knocked off Deja Vu, 10-0; Georgia Bandits, 7-0; Tucson Scramblers, 4-3; Georgia Xtreme, 2-1; Bayside Blues, 9-3; South Dakota Renegades, 4-0; Minnesota Sting, 2-1; New Mexico Sundancers, 6-0; Lady Blues, 3-2; Michigan Compuware, 5-3; Team DeMarini, 2-0; and the Southern California Pumas, 5-4. The SunDogs return home today, their season over with a 50-8-1 record. Ashlee Stolarski .362 (17 of 47). Sito was 8-1 in the circle and Columbia pitcher Jen Solanics went 6-1.
The SunDogs roster included Aleecia Sunagel of Amherst, Erin Sunagel, formerly of Midview; Alex Machen of Lebanon, former Elyria star Jen Bower, Kristen Fyffe, starting left fielder on the Pioneers? 2009 state champs; Solanics and Courtney Traut of Columbia; former Keystone star Clare Sullivan, Amherst?s Amanda Arendt and Teresa Davis of Firelands."
Didn't go on to major programs but what a competative team and all local kids.
