I know of a 12 year old girl playing up at the 14U level. Our 12U team is gonna be short in a couple of weeks and I inquired about her playing with us. Someone mentioned that she may not be able to do this because she left 12U to play 14U. What are the rules on moving between the two age groups? Thanks in advance.

Once you go up and can't go back down,
However if you are playing in a showcase
tourney you should be fine.

You can move up and down! If your playing ASA and she attended a qualifer, then she cant come back down. If she didn't attend a qulifier then she can come back down and rosters are not locked until you play in a qualifier. I dont think USSSA cares, or NSA. Other than that, you can move like musical chairs if your not playing in national tournaments.

It depends on what sanctions she has been playing at the 14u level and what sanction she is being invited to play at the 12u level. If she has been playing 14u ASA she isn't supposed to be eligible for a 12u ASA event. If the tournament in which she is going to "guest play" is sanctioned by another entity such as NSA or USSSA, to my knowledge there is no problem.

Even if it is a step down from one ASA age group to another, as long as the lower age group event is not a qualifier for ASA Easterns or USA/ASA Nationals, the issue is not likely to be raised by anyone because TDs in non-qualifier events rarely require rosters to be turned in. For ASA qualifiers for Easterns or USA/ASA, rosters are required and could be used to challenge eligibility if your DD ends up playing in the Easterns of USA/ASA.

Just be aware that if someone is really out to get your daughter and they have proof that she played in two age groups in ASA events, they could challenge her ability to play in future ASA events this season.

I am not familiar with the rules from other sanctions on this, but I seem to remember someone posting that for USSSA, which has players rostered on-line, the rule prohibits the player from being on rosters of two different age groups.

Are you positive about your answer? Because Article 501.D.02.b says:

"b. On adult or Junior Olympic rosters, a player may participate in more than one adult or Junior Olympic division of play, but that player is limited to only one classification within a division of play."

There is no restriction to this provision saying that it only applies to "championship play" and since Girls Fastpitch is one division and the different age classifications exist within that division, I read the Code to say that you cannot play in more than one ASA age group during one season.

Here is some clarification. The girl is playing ASA 14U. The tournament for 12U guest play would be Laser Nation this coming weekend.
