Eligibility question

I know this has been addressed before and I apologize for asking again but would like to know the answer.

Playing in an ASA qualifier in the fall...can a girl that is 15 now (97 birthdate) play for a 14u team? What if she is a pitcher? What if she is just filling in? Does this hurt her 16u qualifiers in the future?

I hope this makes sense as this subject really confuses me. Thanks in advance.

Northmont: I'm not sure that applies to ASA. I could be mistaken but the ASA "season" is calendar year I think. If the player was still 14 on January 1, 2012, she can play fall ASA tournaments at 14U without doing anything to her eligibility for 2013. However, if she made it to Championship Play in an ASA Qualifier in the Fall tournament, she will need to be "Released" from that team if she wants to play for a different team in 2013. I think.

In ASA/USA fall qualifiers the team must play in the age group that all their rostered players are eligible for as of January 1st of the next year. I would assume that holds true for the Regional Qualifiers as well. If one of your players will be 16u eligible on Jan 1 then your team must play 16u in the ASA/USA Fall Qualifiers.

flarays is correct - teams have to use players in Fall qualifiers that will still be age-eligible the next year. The 97 can fill-in on ASA 14u non-qualifiers in the Fall.

TR_Out is correct that ASA operates on a calendar year. However, players are automatically released when their registration expires at the end of the year.
