The some of girls that I saw at the spano tournament were pretty fast. Looked like they were from 45-50.

This topic is always fun. I've yet to see a dad or mom on here this year claiming the 60mph 10 yr old that can also hit the ball 290'. Shame too cause I love to watch the posts after that! So the average for a normal 10u is around 40-45ish then. The other ones who throw 60 are just circus freaks, those are the kids who run faster throw harder and hit the ball farther than everyone else at that age. At least that's what my dad told me when I was young and asked "hey pa, why does Joe throw the ball so hard and hit so far?"... "Aw son hes a circus freak, there all like that.".....

To the original poster. If your asking because you feel your dd is slower than some larger 10u girls, don't worry about it. Eventually, if you believe in your dd's abilities; she'll catch up by 13u. Just keep pushing her.

From what I have witnessed over the past 5 years at 10U. I would say that the Avg pitching speed for a 10U player on a travel ball team is 37-42mph. Again this is on the Average. Seen slower and a whole lot faster. That first chart that -jdcii- showed appears to be pretty accurate in my opinion.

Just to get some info for original poster: I have two girls that I am working with that are 10Us, both are 5th graders, both have turned 11 YO this spring and obviously are 2nd year 10U players. One just hit 46 last night as a personal best, she cruises in a game 42-44 with good control. Throws a peel drop and a change. The second I have worked with for just 2 months and is 41-43 but all over the place at this point. Has the seven pitches mentioned above: backstop, dirt, batter, umpire, mascot, etc. I would say the exceptional 10U pitchers are 46-50mph game speed. 50+ mph in 10U would be freaky good, I would think. The biggest challenge I have is converting / working with girls that started with pushing the ball down on the backside of the arm circle and finishing with hello elbow.

my DD had 7 pitches when she was 10u. They were hit the backstop rise, hit the dirt drop, hit the batter screw and curve. Slow, slower and down the middle fastball.

That is Hilarious! Bottom line is that there are only 2 pitches needed. Fastball for strikes and changeup for strike IMHO

I don't know, Coach. That drop ball on the slugger tends to keep any possible hits from flying over the fence. ;&

If everything they throw are strikes, they are going to get pounded.

Ahhhh, but what if there strikes are well controlled on the outside corner, or coming in under the hands for a strike? From what I've seen at 10u, there aren't a whole lot of girls who pound the ball when there well placed pitches. Not saying they can't , but if you have strong pitching at that age it counts for ALOT. Just my opinion, but you know what they say about those........

IMO, the average 10u pitcher does not have great control which to me means there are not a whole lot of well placed pitches. lol

I'm sure Larry will agree with this one...have a good pitcher that has a great catcher. She will be successful. I used to tease my cadre that my dd would walk a girl to give her catcher the chance to gun her down! they are both 6th graders now!!

Love seeing this post and as you can see I NEVER post. I just enjoy the entertainment. Makes me feel good with my dd. Throwing 37 consistently and (Mostly) strikes.
I will admit to hijacking the thread.
I saw her throw in a scrimmage this winter where she struck our 6 in the first inning. How is that possible???>>>
So I'll say to 10U coaches out there..........
Do you have a catcher??

She has 2 great catchers that have her back now and a great pitcher to balance off of. They are already focused on winning State....2019.

You're aware we are talking about 10u.....if you have a pitcher throwing 30mph down the middle of course she is going to get hit....but not everyone is going to pound it. As you said...not every pitcher at 10u is going to have control to hit the corner consistently.... and not every kid hitting is a 4 hole hitter. You take a girl throwing 48mph to 50mph from 35' you will be hard pressed to see any hits off that pitch regardless if its down the middle.

...only if a girl can actually get the ball to drop. Many claim they have that pitch at 10u...but don't

These threads are fun to read. Especially after a pitcher's dad or mom is about 3 or 4 years past those 6 walks and 6 K innings. Those were tough years to watch games.

I would say average speed 43-46 with few throwing harder. Most your top teams have a girl pushing 50 mark between 47-51 but definitely not necessity just a luxury. This my second time at 10u first time we played alot of similar tournament s I had girl that threw 48-51 in games and at World Series was only two girls from ohio that hit 50 in there competition. However accurate that was. I feel there are arleast 7 teams I have played in ohio this year who have pitchers that are close enough to get to magical number by end of summer so I believe that speeds are increasing with a regular pitching coach being normal activity now verse in the past with only mom and dad in backyard.(not that mom and dad can't be good)
