I am a high school coach. My team is out of the tournament. I have a freshman who played the whole season on varsity. I also have an 8th grader who will be a freshman next school year Our season is done. When can she join my select team? Remember, I am her high school coach

?10-3-1 says that her high school season is done when the school plays their last game. It says she then becomes eligiable for select ball.

10-3-6 says that we have to adhere to the 50% rule from June 1st to July 31st.

?It doesn't say anything about a paid coach, coaching his player in select ball from the schools last loss to June 1st

?My A.D. thinks that I am not allowed to coach her. He is a pretty sharp dude. I don't see any concrete rule that specifically says I can't

?I want to do what is right. We have put in a call to OHSAA.

?I just wanted to get your opinions. ?And don't forget, how is the 8th grader affected

you are allowed 4 girls from your team on your select team thats all. The 8th grader does not count untill she makes the first highschool pratice.

Remember you can only have ten contact days with your HS (current) players during the off season June 1 to July 31.

The eight grader won't count if you do not have a OHSAA middle school program.

There can be unlimited numbers of team members on a team during the June 1 to July 31 period. ?The key is the number of contact dates.

1 kid one contact = 1 contact
20 kids at one practice = 1 contact

Note that if the number of girls from the high school is 4 or less on the team you are coaching in the summer, those don't count against the contact days.

Also something to remember, if you already have 4 girls from your high school team on this select team you would not be able to add another player ( the 8th grader) next year. If the freshman only played on the jv team all year she is still in your high school and would count toward the 4 player limit.

Did your school sell hot dogs at the high school games?

Is the 8th grader a vegetarian?

Remember, the new OHSAA guidelines around nutritional standards for sports that occur outside will go into effect no later than June 1, but girls accompanied by family pets or a parent will be allowed to purchase combined meat products if not in uniform.

Geesh!

Didn't a wise man once say it's not a rule unless you get caught? ;)

How does it affect the 8th grader on this team who came and pitched an entire varsity practice during the high school season? Does this count as participating on the high school team? Is her eligibility affected? She plays for the varsity coach on his select team so he brought her to pitch to the varsity team.
When there is a middle school team, can those players participate in high school practices without risking their own high school eligibility? It was only one single player who did this and NOT the entire team. The middle school team has never practiced with the varsity team; it was just the one player.

Middle school players are not aloud to participate in high school practices at all.
