Smiller and ShockW - thanks for the comments regarding DD. She definitely was worn out from the day....after the 9:00 pitching session she walked off saying I can't feel my arm, hit for another 1.5 hours at 11:30 and came out asking: I'm not sure about the fielding session? After 1.5 hours of fielding at 3:00 and throwing some more, she came out and said "I need to lay down" and finally, when she got to meet her teammates at 6:00 and play at 7:00 she said after the game: I would do this all over again! She absolutely loved her team and meeting the players. She drew a fantastic catcher who blocked well and called a good game.....(just like you Tori!) For a sophomore who had not participated in an event with this many college coaches present and seeing coaches she has written following her team and taking notes was definitely worth it for her and for us as parents. She could and has pitched better from the mound, but it is all part of the process. For many of these players, it was a very long day with alot to do to even get there and be ready for the event. For her, it was the first inning of what we hope will be a long and fun game that ends four years after college!
I guess for me, I was impressed with the number of colleges present for the Kent State Showcase. I saw 135 signed in and I know several more came in after that. I wondered if they would leave when the Queen of Diamonds started, but I actually didn't notice much difference between the two events. The coaches were at both events on Saturday and Sunday. It was obvious that Sunday had slimmed down some, but so had the spectators!
As a parent who has been around this game for many years, it was very nice to see some (not all) of the best players I have heard about throughout Ohio participating this past weekend. It was good to see Caudill, Montana Wear, Katie Ardrey, Emily A, Lauren Gambone, Diggs, Duggins, Rossi, Annie Truelove, etc., play. Those are just a few of the
kids I got to see who I have watched in elementary, high school and travel ball. I want all of them to do well and get to the next level!
Oh yeah, this was about pitching speed......all clocks are about 2mph off....one way or another! Savvy was at a college camp last weekend and hit her profile speed consistently. Her speed during the games was lower than that by 2 mph mostly and occasionally 4mph. She also hit 62mph on at least 2 readings. She didn't hit that the weekend before, so, I take clock speed for what it is worth.
Sorry for long post and posting more than what the subject was about! I have read all of these comments and think some are true, but not true for everyone. Yesterday, Savvy received invites (through her coaches) from college coaches who had seen her at the Showcase over the weekend. That was a nice reward for her and I hope everyone is receiving those invites and following up with the coaches!
