Just wanting some opinions of coaches and parents. If you give a girl an offer to join your team, how long should you allow them to think about it and give you a decision? Do you do it as a per kid situation or just say "you have x days, x hours to give me your decision?

Just wanted opinion. I had a parent contact me and said another coach said they have 24 hours to make a decision. Thought this was a little fast but just my opinion.

24 hours to make a decision that will commit you to a one year obligation, seems like a reason for not playing for this organization.

When I was still Coaching we gave the players and parents until September 1st to make a decision. We started tryouts the second weekend of August and tryouts were completed by August the 20th. If a Player or Parent was still on the fence by September 1st, we just took a pass on the player. Wish them the best!

Well... If you have been following the recent posts on tryout season **Cough** starts in early March and teams are set by June.

In all seriousness I think it really depends on what team you are looking at and what the interest level is on your end. Remember if everyone had 30days there would be teams without first choice players and players with out first choice teams. Do your homework. Know where you want to be and just like a college have a 1,2,3 picks. If my kids number 1 team wanted her then yes 24hours is reasonable. If you are just blindly trying to get to as many try outs as possible you may be behind. I think a week is plenty of time, especially if you have done your due diligence on the team. I would also say the younger the age the more time required to decide.

I would be hesitant on any one who gives expiring offer dates, within the course of hours.

Teams do not stop looking because they give an offer...
I would give a week but if a player with the same abilities came along I would not pass on them because a parent could not decide. Most coaches expect that if a player shows up at a tryout they have an interest in the team so really a few days should be sufficient.

I once gave a pitcher a few hours to decide because I had another kid I liked as much but she lived in the WV and I knew she would get taken quickly if I messed around. I was texting and calling her dad and he said the decision was like buying a house but they took our offer. She is going on her third year with us now and contemplating a full ride offer several states away. The other kid? Went to Lasers Green and was there again this year. Timing is everything but things have a way of working out. Sometimes the pressure to decide isn't just because the coach is an ass. I see the same exact thing from college coaches at times but not quite that tight of time frames.

DD got multiple offers last year and they all wanted to know within 1-2 days max. Very stressful especially when you still have tryouts to attend. If all the offers come at the same time, a day is plenty of time to decide bc you should have a top team. But when they come as tryouts are still going on and want an answer within 24 hrs it's really hard to know what to do.
I do understand coaches need an answer so they can move on and not miss out on the next girl. But 24 hours is tough.
